Arrived 1.30 pm, no security checks at all, BBQ consumed, alcohol drunk, live is good

They've changed the layout!  the queue used to start right at the gate. Now, it starts at top of the hill by a security point. People in the queue already.

I'd guess a mix, as the gate into East 17 from Carpark East 8 by the AA
 is still open. Get to that & you're on the way to the back of the gate c queue. They're checking tickets at this gate, and it's going to be open 24/7. However, I've just heard security say they'll be holding people at some point at this gate.
