When you try and nip the ball away you go with your toes first. He didn't. It's a red.

He's allowed to.

Other player's job is to avoid him, given that Bellerin was first to the ball.

Red is perhaps a little harsh, but yellow would have been a bit too much in the opposite direction.

He didn't but thats no way to tackle from Bellerin. Back to the ball and his trailing leg as his lead leg. If you just stood up straight he would've won the ball. Its an odd one. Its a 50/50 all day if Bellerin doesn't do that weird kneel.

 

 

Agree with his comments about injuries though. Very poor.

Oh sure not arguing that, just saying its a very odd body position that otherwise wouldn't have lead to a red card. Tackling with the outside of your calf! I don't think Bellerin was trying to deceive or anything like that. Don't think Pogba was trying to stamp on him either.

It was a bit of an odd one, granted, but you can see what he was trying to do (block the path of the ball with his leg horizontal) cos that's what he did.

who says it was 'a tackle'?

Ball was running free, he blocked the path of the ball.

I think he thought Pogba was going to knock the ball to the side of him and that's how he ended up doing what he did, but whatever, it's a valid move, and 2nd man to the ball has to take avoiding action.

nah, it's not - Bellerin is first the ball in all situations. when he put his leg down he didn't move towards the ball and the ball reached him before Pogba got there.

It's a late challenge, and a bad one. In another game it might not have been a sending off, but it still would be plenty of times.

Ultimately, what Bellerin did was no different to when one player kicks the ball at another's legs. It's a valid part of the game (and quite standard for goalies, too).

That's a red all day long for me. Which is a shame because I'd have liked to see United full strength for the derby but instead now their tactics will differ accordingly.

Its the sort of red card you cant complain about IMO. It may or may not have been awarded in another game by another ref but one expects reds to be issued for such. Pogba did not mean it but that doesnt matter

I just think Pogba was going for the ball before Bellerin did his little side squat. If Bellerin puts in a normal tackle it may not have even been a foul. ie there would've been no leg for Pogba to stamp on. 

Suppose its a red because of that but its a unique one.
