Having witnessed Wednesday become a thing and turn into the godawful park overnight Tuesday, moving it a day earlier would just mean people arriving Monday night and them having to open the fields to get the traffic off the local roads Monday night so in the end you solve nothing, you just move all the problems from Tue/Wed to Mon/Tue.

Early bird tickets would mean nothing, people would still turn up as soon as the car parks open (Glastonbury would be forced to allow them onto the car parks) and party there until they could get in.

I'm not sure there is a solution. The local infrastructure simply cannot cope with it's growth. The only solutions I can see are to reduce the capacity or move the festival.

Or which gate is worst at coping when busy - I'd say B & D

Gate A has all the coach travellers plus people from Yellow and Pink car parks. Think there is a pretty even split across all main entry points though.

Okay both sound good to me I'm arriving from Gate C early p.m Weds so hoping for the best but know extra checks are necessary so will take it as it comes

As long as it was limited to a certain number of ticket holders and the access is similar to what they do with the camper vans already allowed to arrive Tuesday nights. They would need a limited number of toilets available plus some food stalls which are probably already there and open to cater for workers.

Actual entertainment and bars would have to remain closed until the Wednesday but anything to ease the Wednesday congestion would be a step in the right direction.

It's way more complicated than that.

The site is still officially (and in many respects practically) a building site even as late as the Tuesday evening, and can't open to the public until H&S have signed it off. Specifically, there's still vehicles moving around unescorted, some internal vehicle routes are different (muddy lane is vehicle only during the build), there's gaps where fences that have yet to be put up, several internal gates are kept open, there's a big security sweep of the site required to take place on the Tuesday evening/night, etc etc. To open earlier would mean getting the H&S sign off earlier, which would mean pushing up the build - in which case you might as well allow everyone on site at that point.

The alternative would be if you could get part of the site signed off earlier than the rest and restrict public access to those areas - but that'd be a real pain to manage.

Be there Sunday and will let you all know of site conditions

Think I may now go Sunday as getting the car searched will take a while and with all the other vehicles going in might end up a pain in the queue, so hoping Sunday afternoon might be easier, plus an extra half day on site :)

I may be wrong but didn't the police request that the pedestrian gates to opened early in 2010 due to the volume of people queing (for the football) ?

Was wondering how they would manage the same situation this year.

If they're going to open the gates early to help with queues then it's very unlikely they'd announce it in advance - tho I wouldn't go expecting it, because that would be the old bill over-ruling the terms of the licence.

I don't remember exactly what happened in 2010, but if the gates opened before 8am (something that has definitely happened a few times), I'm pretty sure that it won't have been any earlier than 6am as that's when all the shifts start. Trying to move that earlier would have knock on consequences - either asking people to work longer, needing even more staff, or moving shifts forward leaving gaps later on.

Some / all of the camping west of the concrete road would have potential. The road itself is a service trunk, and as such acts as natural segregation with limited crossing points.

I don't think it's likely, but it's a curious thought.

The rest of the site - impossible - for the reasons you mention.

The searches could work out better for some....

They say there will be a separate queue for people with large bags/trolleys etc - which will be 90% of campers. So if your in a group one person goes in with just a couple of tents, they will effectively get an express check-in and will be off and running for a really good spot to setup camp while the rest have to wait. If delay is long enough they could exit, pickup another tent and your sorted...

As for security during the festival - with B&W being drop-off point and having 24/7 traffic entering/leaving site that is the weakest security link and would be the logical target. Once inside the superfence then I imagine you'll be pretty safe until it's time to leave  (as per MEN attack).

I still think if they attack at all it'll be the bus/train pickup points as they are a soft target.

Fuck sake.. some people in this thread think they work for MI5. I really don't think people need to read about possible targets. You' will just cause people to worry.

I can't believe people are actually contemplating an attack, Im not even thinking about it in any capacity at all.

I don't contemplate one either anywhere, but best to think wherever you are, we are all the best security there is. If you see something odd, report it
