Bucky costs more than you average dinner party bottle of wine..a fact often overlooked

Remember back in me crusty days it was priced perfectly to get a young rapscallion into lots of mischief. Not a dinner party in sight.

A bit ot, but I never realised until the other day when I looked into it during the cheap cider mayhem, just how much tax makes up the price of spirits. The tax on a 1litre 40% proof bottle of spirits is £11.50 + 20% Vat on top - so when you see a 1 litre bottle of spirits for sale around the 15 quid mark then it really is a bargain!

Not exactly a bargain, but this site does 24 x 500ml cases of decent ale (Tanglefoot, Hobgoblin) delivered to your door

https://www.drinksupermarket.com/ales-bitters-by-the-case/l/tin-can

Couple of questions:

1. Has anyone ever seen plastic litre bottles of spirits for sale in the UK? My parents come back from Spain with plastic bottles of brandy and gin every summer...forgot to ask them to bring some back last year and they have rudely drank all theirs.

2. From being a pretty consistent drinker (couple of beers or  glasses of wine most nights) I've now gone 2 months with booze. Got to admit, it's quite a nice feeling! The longest I've gone without booze since I was 16 probably! However, I cannot countenance being dry at Glastonbury. Should I last it out until then and celebrate the end of 3 months of sobriety with a beer once my tent is up, then go crazy for 5 days? Or should I "warm up" with a cider or two in the weeks leading up to it?

Bit steep tho. Often get 2 4-packs for £8/9 in the supermarkets and they'll deliver 'em too ey.

Previous threads return a bit of a null; I don't know why you wouldn't just decant your tipple anyway. Probably more cost-effective and next to zero hassle innit.
