Worthy View Car Park & Traffic

After the hellish 9 hour queue to get into the normal car parks last year on the Wednesday morning, we have booked Worthy View this year to get the allocated camping to allow us to (hopefully) miss the majority by arriving early Thursday morning.

To anyone that has stayed at Worthy View previously a couple of questions.

1. Any idea of the traffic/car park queue in previous years on a Thursday morning ?

2. Any tips on the best route into that car park (heading from London direction) ?

Cheers

What's the best way to get to Worthy View coming from the North (specifically Newcastle).  Same way as the directions from Liverpool as posted previously?

No queue to get in the car park on late- Wednesday afternoon last year, so can't imagine there will be one on Thursday.

I came down from the Midlands last year, whizzed down the M5 and got off at Junction 23. Then you just take the A39 through Street and Glastonbury. However due to last year's traffic hell, I left the motorway at 7.30am and got to my tent at 5.00pm! My friends came through Cheddar Gorge quicker, but they set off later and knew which routes to avoid.

As long as on site conditions are not as bad as last year, then I would do the A39 route.

Leaving London via M4....use M4 to J17....head South to Chippenham on A350....then A361 all the way Chippenham/Trowbridge/Frome/Shepton Mallet.  At Shepton Mallet head south on A37 for 2 miles and then turn right at the top of Wraxall Hill where directed to Worthy View.

Leaving London on M3....use M3 to J8 and join A303....stay on A303 until Stonehenge then turn right onto A36 north about 5 miles after Stonehenge.  Follow A36 to Warminster then turn left towards Frome on A362.  Turn left onto A361 at Frome and follow directions to Shepton Mallet....then as above from Shepton Mallet.

Both these routes will keep you on main roads but by Thursday you shouldn't hit any traffic problems.

Have a great trip B)
