Anyone ever encountered a biodegradable tent at a festival in the past, I've seen a few projects floating around the net and some on the horizon, one that could be low budget as a well as a satisfactory tent, just wondered what people here thought of them, especially with Glastonbury's love the farm, leave no trace and links to greenpeace, green fields etc.

Also is there a good tent out there that can stay cooler that bit longer in the daytime or sunlight so it's possible to get that extra bit of sleep when it's quiet in the mornings.

I've had my eye on one of these very tents, what is it like in terms of performance?

I've got one of the older Quechua pop up "illumi fresh" tents. Silvered on inside but not dark. Certainly loads cooler. Can sit in the tent even in the sun. It's great. The tent seems pretty good. Ours has been used 4 or 5 years now. At least two camping trips per year and no damage yet. Then again it was about 200 quid and we're pretty careful with it.

I had an inflatable fresh and black one last year and it was superb. Gave it my nephew after the festival and he has trashed it. Had no hesitation buying the new 3 man version this year. Would definitely recommend them.

I'm really interested in getting one of these tents, pretty sceptical about the inflatable part though. Just worried that it would be easier to break than a tent pole and if deflated would render the whole thing useless.

Do you have the 3 man with a porch?

Don't worry about the poles. The tent is like it is on Viagra and will withstand a monsoon.

I think there are 2 porches in this years model.

The festival gave out biodegradable tent pegs back in 2008 or 2009, they were a bit crap though and useless for hard ground - would have been fine for last year though.

To keep your tent cool, tape those silver foil sheet they give runners after a marathon between the inner and outer of your tent - reflects the sun away.
