Sawdusty surfer
Sorry if this has already been discussed... Flares not just banned, but illegal. Quote Music festivals are following in the footsteps of football matches, as a new law takes effect from today (3 April 2017) banning the use of pyrotechnics at music festivals. Section 134 of the Policing and Crime Act 2017 states that anyone caught with a “pyrotechnic article” at a “qualifying musical event” in England or Wales could face up to three months in prison and/or a fine. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/pyrotechnics-music-festivals-alex-chapman?published=t
Hugh Jass
I'm going to suggest that this will make precisely zero difference to the use of flares at Glastonbury Festival.
Divein
Last year was the 1st time I've ever see anyone get told to put them out or put them on the ground. There were a few stewards in the crowd for new order but I can see it making a difference at the pyramid.
eastynh
Lock the users up. 3 months in Strangeways is extremely lenient.
giantkatestacks
I'm not a fan but used to cynically think lots of the Pyramid flares were organised by the promotors etc but then last year I saw one of the security guards going apeshit trying to get hold of one and put it out so they aren't there with Glastonbury's agreement. All very odd.

Brave Sir Robin
They just cannot do this, not the year they have the Jacksons, Chic and Barry Gibb all playing.

This. Because you NEVER see them at football matches anymore.
Homer
Won't make any difference now, I don't think. No one even wears bootcut any more, let alone flares.

august1
The police have dogs trained to sniff them out at football. Suppose they could have them here?

johnomatic
Definitely noticed security getting tougher on them even in the few years I've been going - as a few people have said I saw a couple of times last year when they got in the crowd and ran towards people to take them off them. Not too fussed about them myself as long as people aren't being twats with them.

If all the sniffer dogs at Glastonbury are only able to sniff out flares then that's absolutely fine with me Edited April 3, 2017 by Jamie D
Wilfko
The type of people who bother buying flares and are comfortable with the attention of everyone surrounding them being on them are not the type of people to give a fuck.. and long may they continue to not give a fuck, I love the flares. I wonder how many flare related injuries there have been at music events per year? Would I even need to use two hands?
