I'll have a go:

  1. Pyramid - Open Aire
  2. Other - Open Air
  3. West Holts - Open Air
  4. John Peel - Tent
  5. The Park Stage - Open

Then I'm not sure, In fact 4&5 might be the wrong way round, but then there's tents like

  • Acoustic
  • Avalon
  • Leftfield
  • Sonic
  • Avalon Cafe

Then loads of others, mainly tents, but some are open or semi open (in the case of The Glade)

acoustic is bigger than John Peel, isn't it?

Is it?  I'm hardly ever there (acoustic), so probably remember it wrong.

I knew I'd get some of it wrong. I'm surprised we've not got this nailed down on a Thingy or an FAQ or something like that, it's the kind of information we're all interested in, I would have expected someone to have compiled a nice list by now.

EDIT: Acoustic bigger than John Peel?  Really?  JPT is huge!

This is the one thing that I've never seen a clear/agreed upon answer for.

Would there not be figures in planning permissions and the like?

We've made a start a few times, but generally get sidetracked in arguments about the capacity of the open air stages.  The tents all have a defined capacity in their specs, we should really be able to rank them.

My gut feeling is to say the JP is bigger than the Acoustic

but it's kind of moot, some of it. Like you can fit a lot of people into the park, up the hill etc, but they'll see and hear bugger all

It is about a third again bigger.

This needs it's own thread!

Yes it does.

When it does pop a message over to Emily via Twitter and she will be quite happy I think to provide the info.

Well any sensible ranking wouldn't include that bit then would it.

I mean, you can hear the other stage from Pennard's but you wouldn't include all that would you.

yeah, but Radiohead, Pulp etc, there were loads of people there to see them.

Defence rests.

Ha! It's probably the best part of a decade since I was down that way, and I believe they've got a bigger tent since then.

Acoustic is defo bigger than the JP tent of a decade ago, then. :P

We probably went past each other sometime in 2007 then!

Yes, JPT grew quite a while ago, can't remember when, but it's been huge since 2010 at the very least,  I'm thinking 2008 might have been when it went mega.  Can't really remember that far back!

Don't think so - but even if the square footage were bigger the capacity in Acoustic is definitely lower BECAUSE OF ALL THE PIGGING BLANKETS AND CHAIRS.

not true - no chairs allowed in Acoustic.

I've been going to Glastonbury for 30 years, and I've been to the acoustic tent more in the last 3 years (it'[s a sign of getting old, i guess) than in the other 27, so now i know these sorts of things. :P
