Part of a regional team now, so will have to keep an eye on it as we can only have 20% off at one time including allowances for non working days and long term sick.  (I could in theory book it now, but I feel cheeky with leave recently booked for an end of January Trip).

Tad annoying, but I should be able to get it in just before all the summer requests go in (and i know one other guy on my site's team is going be trying in the resale, so might need to beat him to the punch)

You feel cheeky booking time off for a holiday you've got tickets for? What the hell?

That's just filthy.

One of the real benefits of my job is that everyone is fairly straight talking. We have a few annoying phrases flying around, but for the most part everyone is to the point and uses actual words/phrases. Dunno if that's because it's full of northerners or what? Although I'm sure some Northerners can be ask guilty as anyone else when using that horrible lingo!

Oh fuck me I hate "socialising ideas".

Downloading is another one.  "I'm going on leave, nothing critical but I'll download some info to you in case anything crops up." So you'll tell me then?

I've got the opposite problem - I'd booked the usual "Glasto" 8 days off as soon as our 2017 holiday allocations were available & the dates confirmed.

Didn't get tickets in main sales so told him I would probably be cancelling it - and would confirm in April.

Now I've got the boss moaning that I've got too much holiday to take if I cancel the slot & suggesting I just sit at home watching it on the Telly.

I don't have any issue but Husband has a nightmare every year. He works for a breakdown recovery company as a patrol and he puts in his leave requests for the following year in October, then he finds out in November if he's got them.

One year we had to cancel the hard fought for Glasto tickets as another guy wanted 3 of the same days off. Husband got turned down in favour of the total tool who was just booking a week in Spain - and he admitted he could have gone anytime. We spent the best part of 4 months trying to get shift swaps with other patrols but had to admit defeat in the end.

We are tentatively waiting the confirmation for next year :(

A little atm, always sort of feel you should be close to your next batch of leave or taken it before asking again :P (More me being weird than the employer though really)

that's ridiculous! What if someone puts their holiday in now and your request is refused? You are ENTITLED to your annual leave!

I am stressed just thinking about it.

I think because my previous job I didn't have to worry about it at all, I'd normally ask like the month before and it got approve, its just never had to stress too much.

This attitude might change if it becomes a close call, but I am keeping an eye on the spreadsheet :P

Like when your sat in a meeting and someone says  'let's take this offline'. Makes my skin crawl.

We can't put holiday requests in until March, but I barely even have to bother. Its just known that I'm off that week.

After I got back this year the deputy manager and his girlfriend (who worked for us at the time) decided they wanted to go next year so there was lots of joking about the fact I wouldn't be guaranteed time off for next year.

My response, "well this is all fun and we're all having a great laugh, but do you really want to find out where this job comes in terms of my priorities"

I've got the time off

Put my hols request in a few days after T day. My boss was on holiday that week, but approved them 1st day he was back .... followed up by an email saying he had thought to text to see how I'd got on while he was away, but instead sighed with relief when he saw my request. What a fab boss!

Woman at work was walking past me and said hey Aitch, when you get a minute I'd like to touch base with you.

Finbarr!

We keep a list at work of dickish office bullshit we've heard called The Guff List.

I have about 50ish on there so far.

Some manager described someone's idea which he considered pointless (it wasn't) like this:

"Nope, that's just rearranging the deckchairs on the titanic"

What a colossal prick.

You live in the best reality dusty. People do say these things in meetings. I've realised that these days no matter how polite my words I can no longer hide the contempt on my face as my patience for numbFucks has deteriorated with age.

I get the impression the people who progress upwards past a certain stage either UTTER believe it and are corporate brainwashed c**ts or pretend to believe it and are really fucking great actors...which must be exhausting.

I cant help but laugh out loud in meetings when I hear this shit and I make an obvious show of writing down their bullshit for the Guff List.

I will never progress further at work.

There's one particular bellend who tries to join in but always fucks it up. That's even funnier. He has his own list we keep and mix up with fake bollocks. At Xmas we play 'Real Reg?':

"He's like a bull in a Chinese workshop" - Real.

To an apprentice - "I think what Woffy is trying to say, Tom, is that you need to be more impotent"

Me - "Um, show more 'impetus'"

Real.

I work in Local Government and last year I didn't put my leave in til fairly late, knowing my team would all be working.  Then they announced the flipping EU Ref might be at the end of June!  We run all the polling stations and the count so there's no leave allowed, I just got my time off approved before they officially announced the date, soooo close!  My manager wasn't sure whether to even approve it, luckily I convinced her...

I had mine denied at work , by my boss who has been several times himself , another supervisor was off , after a very annoyed evening and night thinking up sickness excuses and thoughts of a job change  , the following day it was revealed that it was a wind up , I have been 13 ish times and everyone at work knows that . so this windup worked very well but not sure I found it funny !!
