Annual Leave

Luckily I'm self employed so I don't usually have problems getting the time off, I just try and bend my work trips around the festival. I have had to miss the the odd one unfortunately though when the festival has fallen smack bang in the middle of a 2 month trip away. Should I get successful in the resale I'll be doing everything I can to get next year off mind.

I had a new boss start the week before T-Day. When I mentioned that hopefully she'd receive a holiday quest on the following Monday, she said that she was already booked off and I wouldn't be able to take it off too.

I said "This is obviously a windup" and thankfully it was.

Peace

Oh fuck me I hate "socialising ideas".

Downloading is another one.  "I'm going on leave, nothing critical but I'll download some info to you in case anything crops up." So you'll tell me then?

In my newish job someone said "We'll be socialising it with ExCo" I've put up with some business BS in the past but this nearly pushed me over the edge. As mentioned in this thread, not one person talks like that in the real works. Cobblers, the lot of it.

I teach in a college and getting the time off approved is always a fraught business based around a high intensity bargaining session with my boss. Normally I agree to pretty much anything, work every parents evening/interview nights/Saturday open days, anything !

However this year she has handed in her notice and leaves at Christmas ..... as a result she is on a holiday leave authorising frenzy and I am reaping the benefits, Glastonbury booked Wednesday through to Monday

Genuinely have not a clue what this means! Not a single scooby.

It means 'we're going to butter up the Executive Committee by telling them how super duper this new project is, and once they think it's a no-brained we'll hit them with the cost benefit analysis that shows how much cash this shit is costing us'

Fark. Spose it was shorter. Still whiffs a bit.

Thanks for the explanation! I'll be sure to use it sometime, not quite sure how or where yet...

I get the impression the people who progress upwards past a certain stage either UTTER believe it and are corporate brainwashed c**ts or pretend to believe it and are really fucking great actors...which must be exhausting.

I cant help but laugh out loud in meetings when I hear this shit and I make an obvious show of writing down their bullshit for the Guff List.

I will never progress further at work.

There's one particular bellend who tries to join in but always fucks it up. That's even funnier. He has his own list we keep and mix up with fake bollocks. At Xmas we play 'Real Reg?':

"He's like a bull in a Chinese workshop" - Real.

To an apprentice - "I think what Woffy is trying to say, Tom, is that you need to be more impotent"

Me - "Um, show more 'impetus'"

Real.

Mine's booked in perpetuity. My manager knows I would resign on the spot if I wasn't allowed the time off.

The only downside is that I have two weeks booked off in June 2018 that I will have to fill somehow. A 'proper' holiday, perhaps.

Yep, we've only got one life and some things are not negotiable....

I used to be PA to a Director at my company, and she used to ask me to set up 'socialisation meetings' with other Directors so she could just, y'know, sit and tell them stuff. Otherwise known as 'a chat'. Business speak is w*nk.

For this years festival I booked it straight after getting tickets, then the referendum was announced and all Holiday was banned (I work in financial services and the day after the referendum as as busy as whole entire month!) they had to honour my holiday (to be fair they were happy to) and I dodged an absolute bullet, some of my colleagues were in the office at 2am and worked through until 6 or 7pm. I still got paid the same as far as bonuses go etc but didn't have to do any of the work!

I teach in a school about 15 miles from Pilton. So many of us go that the blanket rule is nobody is allowed the time off :(  So it'll be another set up on Wednesday/ Thursday evening and festival proper on Friday afternoon!

We sometimes have to do similar. Husband has no problems in booking the time off, no one else where he works goes (or is interested or even understands why we go !!) Fingers crossed that continues. We have to drive out and collect daughter after school on Friday though.  Husband has degree level knowledge in which car park is where
