I recall Melvin being interviewed about booking them for Latitude and he said he just received a mass email from their agent saying 'Kraftwerk will play your festival for £100k' and he got back to them and booked them within the day.

I'm not sure if he just gave that price as a random figure, and I'm not sure if Glastonbury pay as much as that for their smaller stages, but I really can't see them doing Silver Hayes with zero TV coverage to offset a reduced fee when their normal gig is six figures or something.

So...

  1. Given how easily they filled the Main Stage field at Latitude, I can't see them playing anything smaller than WH at Glastonbury
  2. I'll put my tin hat on but, excited though I was to see them, and impressive though the 3D visuals were (and they really were), 1.5 hours plus of the four of them standing behind their consoles did get a bit...boring. Much as I love much of their stuff (and they played a hugely crowd-pleasing set of classics), on reflection, it wasn't that different to listening to them on record. Sound was incredible, mind - a huge thumbs up to their sound guys.
  3. I came to the conclusion that I think Kraftwerk are a terrific band, hugely influential in much of the music that I love. But I don't need to see them live for a whole set.

I'm already anxious about a kraftwerk clash and haven't got tickets for glastonbury.  I am going to get tickets for liverpool or Manchester anyway ...Hopefully but I would still see them at glastonbury.  If they clash with ed sheeran I know where my wife will Want to go   . If it'd radiohead only one place I will be . They do sound like on record but so what it's just a great great beautiful experience to see kraftwerk

I can imagine that. They've got some incredible music and it's another legendary act to tick off Glasto's list (not played before have they?) but at 10pm at Glastonbury it's really not what I'm gonna be seeking out.

Just thought they're probably a good shout for next year's Blue Dot. I would see them there with less other stuff to drag me away.

All of this is accurate.

It's also worth noting that they were a bigger pull for the Latitude crowd of that year than the other headliners who were Bloc Party and Foals. Also easily the most talked about band on-site; all the food vans playing Autobahn, loads of comedians and speakers name-dropping them, most common t-shirt among punters was the Autobahn one. Then in the media reviews of the festivals afterwards, Kraftwerk were the big story. No way will they play lower than JP or WH headline, could pull off Other against Sheeran on Pyramid if needed.

If they play, WH was my gut reaction - but with the 3D aspect I suspect they'd need a tent. The new and improved John Peel would be my prediction now. I suspect it would be rammed - unless the festival went mental and put them against Radiohead.

I suspect the Radiohead / Kraftwerk fan crossover would be very high. In comparision to the other rumoured headliners.

Never mind you being bored, think of those four lads up there playing solitaire for 1.5 hours.

they could literally stand there watching porn for 90 mins and noone would know :P

always wondered what exactly was on their screens when they perform, all the videos don't show the screens just them standing behind them. I always thought thewy were probably playing chess or solitaire to a backing beat :P

Nah - it worked fine outdoors at Latitude, albeit not quite so close to the solstice. Thinking back to James Blake's (sublime!) performance this year, it was comfortably dark enough for the 3D visuals to work at WH...

As I have posted elsewhere I have seen them 4 times over the years and one of my favourite bands.  1st time was back in 97 at Tribal Gathering festival and most recently we went to Oslo for the weekend to see them and took our kids and we all loved it.  I've also seen them at Manchester velodrome a few years back and that was great too- when they were playing Tour de France some of the British cycling team started cycling around the velodrome.

Am sorely tempted to get tickets for the tour- most likely Sheffield as the Manchester date is the week of Glastonbury and if I'm working at the festival I'll most likely be on site.  Was thinking of taking a year off of going in 2017 but with this and the Roses rumours may well return.

Personally I think they would most likely play West Holts

They're playing Counterstrike.
