If I was to open up Google Chrome non private browsing and another with private browsing does that count as two separate sessions? (is sessions the right word) I understand web design, front-end stuff but this is much more technical then I would usually look at.

If you're accessing the Internet via your phone, then you're tethering to it.  I normally set my phone up to act like a mini-router rather than plugging into it, but hot spot is the terminology, so that sounds like you're doing as a suggest.  If you can tether by plugging into your phone then that sounds like the slightly better solution to me

That's right.  To be absolutely precise, having two browser instances allows you to maintain two separate sessions with a given web site.  But that's splitting hairs to the extent that one of the networking experts may well chime in to correct me.

Just to clarify, I probably wouldn't bother with that unless you're using a satellite link for your normal broadband.

Cool - do further instances of private / incognito sessions each sandbox themselves - or is there one sandbox for normal chrome browsing and then one sandbox to hold any and all private sessions?

Same local IP (DHCP provided by router), two different public IP's though I would think - one for xDSL, one for LTE. IP Gateway will be dynamic between the two presumably - if one link goes down (or maybe under performs if it has some sort of prioritisation intelligence like that), gateway metric changes, traffic goes out preferred route.

Easy way to check - create a couple of incognito windows and log one of them into something, e.g. eFests.  If you're logged in of the other window then the sessions are shared.  I think it's one at the moment, but I've not checked for a while.

EDIT: It may well differ between browsers.

Taking this discussion in a different direction, is there any reason why you would get a better hit rate when logging in from abroad. Our group has a 2 out of 2 hit rate when logging in abroad, but a 2 out 5 hit rate from the UK. I know this is not that statistically significant but I keep reading on here of others getting tickets when logging in from abroad.

Just need to know if I need to book a hotel in Calais for the 8th.

I would have thought it's unlikely that the router would change to LTE mid way through the session, but if it did it would probably screw up your booking. With a different IP you'd lose your session, assuming they're IP based (which seems reasonable).

A varying public IP worries the shit out of me for something like buying Glastonbury tickets. I would disable the LTE aspect if I could, but given the router is all German, I've no idea how.

But, like everything else on this thread (apart from avoiding satellite links), none of it really matters.

im on a 300mb cable connection with virgin (homeworks+) so if internet speed affected your chance of getting through id be taking a list of registrations to try for by now!....unfortunately it doesn't as others have said, what happens server side is far more important then what happens your end of things.

Sandboxing :

No, you can only have 2 instances per browser (one incognito, one normal) Chrome does not create multiple sandboxes for each tab.

I usually have - 

• Chrome normal
• Chrome incognito
• Safari normal
• Safari Private
• Firefox Normal
• Firefox private

All set up to use auto refresh with a 1 second timeout. And i have 3 computers doing this... 

so theoretically thats 18 F5's a second....

How do you monitor all 18 sessions simultaneously to ensure you don't miss a booking page.....or does your auto-refreshing stop automatically?

i tried using this auto refresh thingys a couple years back, they stop refreshing once the page changes so you shouldn't miss it. the only thing I found is that each browser or computer reloads the screen at a different speed, so there is no replacement for actually looking at the screen and pressing f5 manually to reload it. it may just be me bt the year i tried using them i got through on the one i was manually refreshing.

I have a question regarding the "how to press F5" discussion: Last year, there was a confusion, because right after entering the url glastonbury.seetickets.com you entered the waiting line, the countdown for automatic reload starting at 20 seconds und the url changed its name to glastonbury.seetickets.com/waiting-line (so something like this). So, there were some rumors that if you just press the F5 button then, you only reload the "waiting-line" without any chance to get through and buy tickets.

Can someone please clarify this?

Any URL that uses the http://glastonbury.seetickets.com domain will be directed via DNS to the booking application and, unless a session is available, then triggers the 'busy' page.  Hitting F5 will therefore attempt to open a new session each time and does not simply reload the 'busy' page.

What autorefresh program do you use? And how do you stop it autorefreshing the ticket page (you know the golden page!)?
