dentalplan
So they are actually doing Gorillaz stuff?
Homer
I'm actually starting to consider missing James for this. The potential for other special guests is rather huge - as I remember, they had all sorts up there for the last Glasto Africa Express gig. CaledonianGonzo
I'm missing James for it because of James.
somecoolusername
Pyramid's the place to be lads. I don't wanna see a hundred topics on here after the festival saying 'I can't believe I missed x guest because I was watching James'
CaledonianGonzo
Or because the actual Syrian music itself will probably be beautiful....

Well yes - that's why I was anticipating this being the set of the weekend before they were even on the lineup. But I think it's the potential big names that will be making headlines, rather than the beautiful Syrian music
dentalplan
I would actually urge people to watch James if they like James rather than spotting Modfathers or Mod-uncles perform in an ensemble they don't give a toss about.
CaledonianGonzo
* audience sits stony silent for 20 minutes of sufi classics until Alex James walks on and the place goes bananas *
Mash011
Absolutely love White Flag so I'll look forward to that with Kano and Bashy. Yes, even the orchestra bit. I'm not exactly clued in on Syrian music but I'm open to it - still obviously my hero Damon is the main draw.
addicted2noise
I'm probably going to miss James for them too, this video got me pretty hyped
CaledonianGonzo
Africa Express have also confirmed that kora player Seckou Keita and Iranian-Brit grime mc / songstress TALA will be joining Damo and the lads onstage. Maybe not the famous names that some were hoping for, but it very much looks like it's going to be a fusion sort of affair rather than a straightforward classical reading. I've got a very fond recollection of seeing Peter Gabriel at Glastonbury, which having had a quick search I think may have been 1994 *sits on porch in rocking chair*
