Lineup 2018

I genuinely think the announcement would have been better received if Wolf Alice had been named as a headliner ahead of KoL or FoB. Then at least they could've been shown to be backing a young British band fronted by a female.

Instead you've got two all male American bands which are ten years past their prime (three if you count P!atD).

Potentially could ruin them if they did that though. They aren't ready to headline.

On the other hand, it's bizarre Flo are still yet to headline R&L. They are tick all the boxes and smashed there Glastonbury set when they were put in the spotlight.

All around this summer and none booked. Not saying they would all play, but they could have at least tried.

Having one of these would have made it so much better. It's evident that there's at least 10 options who are around this summer that would be better than FoB or KoL and I don't believe that they weren't able to get any of them. Seems logical that something did happen but if your back ups are panic, fall out boy and kings you're  completely entitled to face scrutiny.

Everyone's complaining about too much rap/grime, but the real issue is the lack of decent rock bands. KOL have been terrible for ten years, FOB and PATD were popular ten years ago, then you have The Wombats, landfill indie from 10 years ago and Papa Roach and Sum 41 who were mostly popular when I was in year 7!

Which makes it even more rubbish as there are so many better rock bands around. It is just beyond me how they didn't manage to land a single one of foos, arctics or RB. The Killers would've been fine to be honest it would actually fit perfectly considering the number of pop acts. Even catfish would've been a better booking than FOB. I can't understand how no UK festival has got royal blood yet except maybe bestival.

If youre gonna book someone from past few years like they have done with FOB, at least make them good ffs. Qotsa? Metallica even?

If they're gonna for emo rock bands, just at least get paramore!

Even Matt realises it's a shit lineup... And he's playing there:lol:

You know it's bad when even the acts you've payed to play are complaining.image.thumb.png.b04a8bc91cfe176c69ed6f696e88e557.png

I know it’s a bit of a weird one but the most recent use of the word stinky means good rather than bad.

I don’t make up the rules

Sadly Gaslight isn’t going to happen. They’ve got London dates in July and they aren’t going to fly over again.

i guess there’s a small chance Brian Fallon will be there, his new solo album has just been released

I guess so, but they and the festival seem to like each other. Don't think they've not promoted one album at the festival.

File alongside 'sick', 'dark', 'rough'.

Panic + FOB are as big as they've ever been

Well I should hope that's true, especially in Panic's case as they've been bumped up from 5th down to co-headliners in 3 years.

They're still not big enough to co-headline and FOB aren't big enough to headline alone. I reckon they'll both get embarrassing crowds. If Travis Scott had ended up subbing his crowd would dwarf FOB's.

Yeah they really should've just tacked Queens on as the Friday headliner. Jack White would've also been an infinitely more interesting Sunday headliner.

Serious question: would Arcade Fire go down better than KoL at RandL? Last album aside, Arcade Fire would definitely look better on the lineup to me, but I could just be biased (and I have no idea if they were available, either).

Out of boredom I've drawn up my ideal 2018 lineup.

I've tried to make it semi-realistic by only including acts that are definitely active this summer. Obvs a lot are exclusives/headlining elsewhere or not in Europe that particular weekend, but in theory they all coulda been booked for the festival had they been available. I've not included anyone (I think) that obviously wouldn't play R&L, don't think anyone is too high/low, and I've included a few acts I'm not as fussed about but the festival should be booking and giving a push (Don Broco, NBT etc.). I've also tried to get a semi-realistic mix of genres, although obviously my own biases will have influenced it a lot.

Done full main stage and just over half NME.

Fri
Main:
Florence & the Machine, The xx, Wolf Alice, Nothing But Thieves, Peace, Declan McKenna, Fickle Friends, Black Honey, Anteros
NME: Childish Gambino, Anderson .paak & the Free Nationals, Dave, Brockhampton, AJ Tracey, The Big Moon

Sat
Main:
Kendrick Lamar, Chvrches, Dua Lipa, J Hus, Mastodon, Creeper, Alien Ant Farm, Idles, Astroid Boys
NME: Pixies, Don Broco, Death From Above, Pvris, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Alvvays, Shame

Sun
Main:
Foo Fighters, The Prodigy, Weezer, The Distillers, The Gaslight Anthem, Marmozets, Beartooth, Arcane Roots, Black Foxxes
NME: Jungle, Sigrid, Jorja Smith, The Amazons, Car Seat Headrest, Pale Waves, Rex Orange County

After typing that out I've realised there's a couple that I'm not 100% sure are touring this summer, but I'm pretty sure almost all of those are.

Just got back from seeing Don Broco and I’ve caught up on the thread.

1. Broco will get added after their tour wraps up. Rock City was as rammed as I’ve ever seen it and was going berserk. Third/fourth down Main for sure I think.

2. WHO THE FUCK is the guy saying he now has to leave a shop if a rap song plays over the tannoy!? I genuinely laughed really loudly reading that  had images of some guy ripping up clothing rails and punting mannequins all over the shop floor. Mental :lol::lol:

I was about to say the same thing. That's where your man dudey rhino's got it wrong. Your problem is not basically the only interesting acts there, it's the washed up has-beens somehow getting headline gigs.

Having said that I'd go see Sum 41 any day haha

The performance probably would go down better for those watching. They'd play to a much smaller crowd though, and sell worse.

Huh I just checked a PATD setlist to see if it'd be fun at all and there's barely anything from the 2000's. No dice.
