Lineup 2018

Recommended Posts

If people are as upset as I am with this line up, consider looking at foreign fests. I went to Rock Werchter last year and it's the best one I've ever been to. Fest like NOS, Mad Cool and Sziget look great this year too

This article had the list of acts, but they've since deleted them. Presumably because the announcement isn't meant to be till later.

Easily at least 7 acts I'd wanna see there from the ones you've mentioned. Think I counted 6 on the Leeds lineup so easily outdone them as of this moment.

Lovebox has already saved the day.

Friday’s lineup includes Skepta, Anderson .Paak, Mabel, DAVE, Jacob Banks, Vince Staples, Bicep, Floorplan, Jackmaster, Peggy Gou, Kerri Chandler, Motor City Drum Ensemble and Moxie.

Saturday sees Childish Gambino, Pharrell Williams with N*E*R*D, The Internet, Big Boi, Mura Masa, Action Bronson, Jon Hopkins, Denis Sulta, Solardo, Mall Grab, Camelphat and Green Velvet perform.

Can Reading swap Sum 41 with Anderson .Paak, please and thank you

And it's more than half the price.

This is so true. Most of the younger people who usually opt for RandL prefer indie/rock music. There are hardly any relevant guitar bands on the lineup. And what is the point in waiting this long to announce a lineup that is so hip-hop heavy when most of that audience have probably bought tickets for wireless or parklife?!

It is incredibly pop/rap heavy, but again you've got to assume that's the image they are trying to push for the festival, in the absence of any other information.  Always think they should announce one stage at a time (like, as I mentioned earlier, the separate Pit announcement a couple of years ago) to stop people getting bent out of shape about genre acts they've never heard of - but at least usually there's a decent mix and this announcement is so heavily pop/rap orientated that it's going to send a lot of people in the direction of other festivals/events.

How quickly did it sell out last year? I got mine off a friend so I don't know if it did or not. I'd presume Frank Ocean and Gambino have the same demand for tickets tbh.

Not sure, I've never been. Wouldn't be surprised if it sells pretty quickly though.

A journalist I follow on twitter made a great point:

‘Whether it's still a rock festival or not is kinda moot, I think. It's a festival based more around what's popular at the time than it is any one genre and that's fair enough. Clinging onto nostalgia for what it was is pointless, just go to a rock festival instead if you want.

That said, wouldn’t it be nice if they picked rock bands that actually represented the exciting shit going on in the genre rn? Weird that they book the best of the best of other genres seemingly every year, but our representatives in 2018 are Sum 41 and Hollywood Undead.’

I think that is spot on.

I get this but also why have FoB who haven't sold out any of their arena tours and panic! at the disco who didn't to sell out the alexandra palace either I believe. As well as KoL who are not representative of the development of rock in any way shape or form. Gotta scrutinise their choice of headliners massively if you're looking at the rising number of acts who are supposedly near the top in their field of music then booking the main acts who match that 'nostalgia' factor it just makes no sense.
