I'm getting old, and although sometimes it's like a cryptic clue on a crossword, sometimes I just don't have the brain capacity to work it out, so please could you explain all the acronyms on this site before I send the wwotw to fsu and leave you wondering if ysyp (you shat your pants - I made that one up!)

Sounds like you know some of the acronyms anyway, but if you're not sure just ask on that particular thread, i'm sure someone nice will let you know - you shouldn't get a snarky reply like you would in most internet forums!

Most of what have been posted here aren't really acronyms, they're abbreviations, specifically initialisms. Acronyms form other words such as NATO or sonar or laser.

Unless you're pronouncing NFR as nufur  and TLSP  as tillsp or something like all them bands that have forgotten their towels.

I just can't fathom why people still insist on over-using acronyms/abbreviations.  You're bound to lose half your audience with these I've-just-made-it-up-to-save-me-five-keystrokes monstrosities.  But it also comes across as a cry from a teenager trapped in the 1990s, being forced to squeeze the most out of their 40 texts/month BT Cellnet contract.  When I don't recognise an acronym/abbreviation, I usually just assume it's something about Adamski or Beverley Hills 90210 and move on.
