THE Scottish festival will reduce the number of revellers from 85,000 to 70,000 as they strive to banish teething problems that plagued last year's event.

The festival came under fire a not-so-smooth transition to its new Strathallan site

T IN THE PARK bosses have cut the capacity by 15,000 for this year’s festival.

The festival reduced its public entertainment licence from 85,000 to 70,000 people for the next two years.

The news comes just a few months before T in the Park returns to Strathallan for the second time.

Music fans are also being offered free bus travel to and from the fest, if they buy their tickets before midnight on May 8.

The bonuses for campers at the festival in July were announced today as part of an overhaul of the event at Strathallan Castle.

Capacity remained at 85,000 for last year's festival although the new location suffered from more than its fair share of teething problems.

Last year's event drew the largest number of complaints in TITP’s 18-year history - the main issues being traffic congestion, pedestrian safety on unlit roads and crowd control.

Organisers hope that by reducing the number of people at the event and encouraging them to use buses rather than cars, that traffic will be reduced and prevent a repeat of the problems of 2015.

A report from Perth and Kinross Council after last year's festival claimed organisers had breached several planning conditions and failed to carry out “basic” requirements, such as briefing stewards and installing enough signs onsite.

At the beginning of the year festival promoters DF Concerts announced plans for improvements ahead of the 2016 event including a larger arena area and increased signage.

T in the Park boss Geoff Ellis said: "Our fans are our number one priority and we’ve listened to all of their feedback from last year and now we’re putting that into action.

"These changes will ensure that watching the wide array of amazing artists at the stages, as well as moving around the main arena, will be much more comfortable and a positive experience for all fans."

Melvin Benn, executive producer at T in the Park said: “The changes we’ve made to the management structure, arena, security, campsite and travel will make for a positive festival experience.

“The new arena layout gives more room, better stage positions and makes the most of the stunning site.

“The campsite will have lots of great entertainment and plenty of staff on hand to help. Security teams have been restructured and the on-site transport provisions improved.

"I can't promise the weather but I can promise everything else will be ok and T 2016 will be remembered for all the right reasons.”

T in the Park will take place from July 8-10 with headliners including The Stone Roses, Calvin Harris and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I don't give a shit what they say, T hasn't had anything like 85k since 2011. This will affect things not at all. Interesting to see Melvin has taken over as spokesperson this year. Effectively admitting that TCGE fucked up badly and the festival needs steering in the right direction again. Of course they could have just listened to us ....................... :)

I'm hoping it does turn around, I'd love to go back to T.
