What to hold back from a 1st timer?

I have only been in 2009 and 2010, and I'm lucky enough to bring a glastonbury Virgin with me this time.

I've seen some great vids that really get me in the mood, but theyou mainly give too much away for showing someone that has never been and I really want to see the look on his face when you get on high ground and see the whole wow factor of Glastonbury.

But I also want to help build the excitement levels and explain that this is no ordinary festival - what is the best way to do this, because I'm excited too much, and he's a bit of a grump.

Get him as excited as you like. You can describe how big and diverse it is but nothing quite prepares you for that moment you get to the top of flagtopia and turn around for the very first time. I do this every time I go and the size of the place still amazes me!:o

Shaun.

i don't think you need to worry about spoiling it, I did nothing but research on the run up to my first Glastonbury last year and I was still completely blown away

I don't think the human brain is capable of processing something like Glasto without seeing with your own eyes, even then it struggles

Doesn't matter how much you big it up, he / she will still be massively overwhelmed. I'll be going for 6 years this year and every year I find something new about the festival that I love and that's the beauty of Glastonbury.

Hopefully we have a couple of newbies with us this year and I'm so jealous they get to experience it for the first time

This nails it for me.  I'm really anal about being prepared for anything, big bike ride, holidays, weekends away, business trips etc.  I get far to carried away reading up on stuff and trying to make sure it all goes perfectly.  My first Glasto, I thought I knew all there was to know.  How wonderfully wrong I was.  And glad of it.

Yep, me too. Read practically the entire website and all of Tort's website too. Absolutely loved it when I arrived and definitely didn't spoil it for myself. If someone wants to research they will, if they want a surprise they'll wait. Each to their own!

Coheed

They played 2013/14 on Other. I was walking past from Oxylers or Dairy. Stopped for Running Free as my old uni housemate used to play it all the time.

I think it was sarcasm saying the R&L line up is rubbish compared to Glasto, or genuine typo

I vaguely remember watching their set on TV! I've seen Coheed so many times I've genuinely lost count, but they tend to disappoint at festivals unfortunately. Can't remember if the Glastonbury set was any good or not though.

haha. No really, every fucking year either in the Stone Circle or The Park: "No no don't turn around, don't turn around". And you can see the person they're speaking to is thinking "Fuck.... YOU".

People should be able to make their own decisions and "ruin" the moment by turning around. Or even stop halfway and go back to their tent for a w*nk if they want.
