Facilities in campervan fields

Hi, Glasto veteran here but going in the campervan fields (east) for the first time. Any advice welcome.

  • What sort of toilet facilities are there (longdrops/compost/portaloos)? What sort of state do they end up in?
  • What about taps and do they tend to have horrendous queues like the ones in the camping fields or is everyone generally sorted in their vans?
  • Is there much thieving that goes on? Will be putting anything valuable in lockups as normal, but wondering about crates of alcohol - we're in a trailer tent rather than a van.
  • How quickly do they fill up on Tuesday and is there anything going on Tuesday evening?

You will find that there are blocks of portaloos and taps around the camper van fields.  Can't vouch for how clean and how often they are emptied but the taps do get busy everyone using them in the mornings. If you have a water butt to fill for your trailer tent then I"d suggest filling bit when you arrive and then if you have to refill it do it early afternoon or on your return vat night when less people will be accessing the taps. There isn't anything official on in the fields on a Tuesday but most people tend to be chilling out or meeting with friends.

We've been in the East campervan field for the last few years (but sadly not this year).

The portal loos have generally been fine - they might get a bit iffy after a lot of use late at night/early morning but they have always been cleaned on a regularly.

The taps are busy in the morning......as suggested above fill your water containers when you get back at night.

never heard of any theiving......but maybe we've just been lucky

love the Tuesday afternoon/evening. Nothing official going on. We usually go and sit at the top of the hill of death with a few cans and look out over the site anticipating the days ahead!

I've been East field for a few years now...

The loos are generally pretty good - get a bit nasty on the last day into the Monday, but the rest of the time I've not encountered a significant problem.

As the others have said, the taps are busy in the morning and although the queue doesn't look massive, compared to some I've had the privilege to stand in down on the site, they can take longer as folk are generally filling up bigger containers... It's worth taking a pipe of some sort (depending on your container) to reach from the tap to the aquaroll or bottle as then you can use the sinks too :)

I've not experienced any thieving either...again maybe we've been lucky

Hill of death is the place to be Tuesday night, few cans of your finest whatever and admire the view :D

The thieving seems to take place in E23 (staff and disabled field) which is where those without tickets meet up to be smuggled in. This has been an issue for the past 3 years.

Some fiends even had a tent taken last year, and I have heard of them entering awnings and taking things. We had someone enter ours but we were there so he promptly left and was soon escorted out by security as I spotted him sitting outside the burger/coffee van.

Leave things out of site and as in the campsites - get to know you neighbours. :)

Tuesday is lovely and chilled in the cv fields, not mad, people getting the know their neighbours, BBQ a few beers etc. Sitting at the top of the hill in the afternoon/evening is lovely

Toilets are ok, bad on Monday but thats all. Especially good if you catch them just after cleaning happens in the morning

The fields fill up slowly but surely -again nothing mad, its all quite sedate really :-) lush !

There tends to be a long line of 'tardis' portaloos in each field, but like the plane 'emergency exit' announcement, you may be nearer the line in the field behind you than the one you can see in the corner of your field.  I'm pretty sure I've seen a trailer emptying these each day, earlyish, and the cleanliness has been ok, apart from one or two. A steward is sent down to check every so often I think.

The waste for the CV toilets are in this area too, in a big underground tank, and there are bin areas around there, or under the steward towers as well.

The queues for the taps are the most long when people arrive or fill up again in the mornings, but you won't have to wait too long, and you can chat in the meanwhile :-)  However, the 'taps' are both the metal ones on sinks, but if you follow the blue plumbing pipe, you'll then come across a big plastic tap - it's these latter ones which are best for filling containers and barrels since they're movable. These taps are about 100 yards apart.

We arrive on mid-afternoon on Wednesday, so can't comment on Tuesdays.

After leaving chairs and stuff out, I've only ever lost a rubber bungee rope, so it seems secure, but I lock doors and chain up the trolley and water barrel just in case.

What's the deal with the camping queues on Tuesday night? The only time I've been in the east gates we queued all through the campervan fields to get to gate C (this was after gates had opened on the Weds). Do they let people out of the car parks into the campervan fields to queue, or are they coralled away somewhere until gates open?

There's usually a queue through the CV fields. Didn't see one last year, but that may have been due to where we were parked.

They hold people back in the car parks overnight, they don't let them go down to the gates and queue (tho a few people manage to get there, not sure how).

I went for a piss at about 6 or 7 on Wednesday morning last year, and the front of the queue from the car parks had just been let thru into the east CV fields, but still wasn't being allowed to go right down towards the festival gates.

Definitely substantial queues through the CV fields on Tuesday night in 2014, at least to the front of E18 - they may stop them crossing the road to the fields closer to the gate.

EDIT: Not sure about any other year. I suppose it could have been people who'd come in CVs, but there were a whole lot of them!

yep, you could be right about E18, or other fields on the other side of the lane (as E18 is). I've not used that side of the lane.

The 'new' queue I saw being formed and held back early in the morning was in E20, which is still one field back from the gate.

Hi there I have just got a campervan ticket, my brother is traveling down with coach ticket package but staying in my van. how do I get him  a pass to stay in campervan field.

Hi, you drive in with your van, and then your brother arrives wherever the coaches get to, walks through gate C for CV East, or whichever gate for CV West, and heads up the field to wherever you've told him you are. Everyone who leaves the festival this way gets an exit ticket each time which needs to be handed back in when you enter - otherwise you get taken off and questioned, so keep hold of it :-) Each day you then walk back to the festival, show your tickets, hand in that exit slip, and enjoy the day.

I had a trailer tent for many years before moving on to a caravan.  Always had a safe.  Easy and cheap on Ebay.

You can fix it in one of underbed storage areas and screw/bolt it to the floor.  It's useful for holding cash and credit cards and possibly car keys

Ahh that explains that then! I thought it was quiet in there last year.

I'd guess the people queuing probably went in with campervan folk. Lots of people around us had people with them who were camping some of the people around us put a tent up in the arena as well as their campervan. But weird I thought but we found a few people who did it!

We arrived lunchtime Tuesday and we were around East 17(lol) which is pretty far back! From speaking to people who were at the front of the camper fields they arrived first thing Tuesday morning.

Would have to be at least Wednesday though as Gate C not open til then... Or is there another way??!!

Dillyblue is right, if you have a coach ticket then first entrance is Wednesday via the coach park entrance and then meet up at either West nor East Camper van areas.

That misses a key aspect surely that I mention above, if you have a coach ticket you won't be arriving before Wednesday, as that's when they start travelling?

Doesn't miss the point at all as I do say that you'll be arriving on the Wednesday.
