The People's Verdict on Peter Dow, Scientist and Republican Socialist

19 members have voted

  1. 1. Members of the jury, how do you find the defendant - guilty, or NOT guilty?

I'm taking this last chance before the trial on Wednesday, 4th November to present my political defence in a new blog I have published.

peter_dow_scientist_640.jpg
Peter Dow with his school, college and university degree certificates

Peter Dow is a Scottish scientist and a republican socialist whose legal human rights are cruelly violated by the police and courts in Aberdeen, where he lives.

Peter Dow's political defence blog publishes the truth about the wrongful and unjust royalist arrests, prosecutions, convictions and punishments he endures.

I am making a counter-charge against those who have charged me.

A crime against humanity

To interrupt my scientific duties and service to humanity with a police raid and court action amounts to the state harming the public interest and committing a crime against humanity.

No state and no officer of the state should ever dare to obstruct what even one scientist can do for the prosperity of the people and for the benefit of humanity because there can be no "state immunity" for crimes against humanity, as the Nuremberg Trials demonstrated.

Thanks, it is nice to be back. I've been keeping a low profile on the internet this past year, partly out of terror in case I get into further trouble, partly keeping my powder dry until now, the few days before the trial on Wednesday.

So why has Dow been arrested?

Press and Journal Aberdeen man accused of threatening Queen on social media sites

An Aberdeen man is due to go on trial accused of threatening the Queen on social media sites.

Alastair Peter Dow is alleged to have caused fear and alarm on July 25 and 26 last year by posting offensive, abusive and threatening messages online about Her Majesty.

Prosecutors claim the 54-year-old acted in a threatening and abusive manner while at his home, 21 Hollybank Place.

Dow denies the charge against him and will go on trial next month.

I wish you well for your trial Peter.

Thanks.

I wish you well for your trial Peter. Seems like the state is going in to overide because of your tweets. Then again, I guess I don't really understand the whole tweet thing never having been, before, slightly interested in it. How many people get to see your tweets?

I had less than 100 followers on Twitter but no-one bothers to read all the tweets of all those they follow.

You can try to get more readers by adding hash-tags like #indyref to your tweet to make it appear in search results of people searching for tweets with that hash-tag.

Normally there's no evidence that anyone has actually read any of my tweets - only if they tweet a reply or do a retweet of your tweet do you know for sure that a tweet has been read by anyone. With the few followers I had, most of my tweets go unread, I would think.

So apart from whoever it was who read my tweets and complained about them, there's no evidence that anyone else had read it before the police over-reacted in such a inappropriate way.

But the way the police have over-reacted over a storm in a teacup, made a mountain out of a molehill and taken a sledgehammer to crack a nut - only one thing is for sure - after the court case and reports in the newspapers, far more people will get to see those tweets by the time this is all over.

Really, it is so ridiculous what the police and prosecutors are doing over a few harmless tweets that would have been long forgotten by everyone, including by me, by now if the police had not overreacted.

What was in your tweets?

In general terms, my tweets were somewhat over-hyped republican political rhetoric.

If you read my Peter Dow's political defence blog - http://peter-dow.blogspot.com

you will see that I say

"I frankly and openly admit to owning the @peterdow Twitter account and I've offered to delete any of the complained-about tweets which the police or prosecutors would otherwise take action over because no tweet is worth the loss of liberty and property which the police and prosecutors have terrorized me with."

Since I am offering to delete any of the complained-about tweets, it would undermine the sincerity of my offer and be unhelpful to my defence if I was to be so foolish as to re-post the text of the complained-about tweets here or elsewhere on the internet, sorry.

Without seeing the exact content of the tweets, I would find it difficult to back you 100% Peter, but my knowledge of how the govt reacts toward whistle blowers, and the "joke tweet" about the airport etc, you have my sympathy and support to that end. Seeing "the crown" crush dissent in its many forms is not something that makes me happy. good luck on wednesday.

Well as long as you are backing me more than you are opposing me, offering me sympathy and support or good wishes then please vote "NOT guilty" in the poll.

It's not really about whether or not you back the tweets 100% because even I would not back the tweets 100% given what has happened and I would have happily deleted ANY complained-about tweet if I had been given an opportunity rather than go through the police raid, lost of liberty and property and facing a trial.

It's not about standing by the tweets, it's about standing by your man, and I'm the people's man so please stand by me and vote "NOT guilty".

Please vote "NOT Guilty"

Hello peter. Please be careful what you say in this thread as everything can and will be used against you.

What is the possible outcome if you are found guilty?

Let's hope they are just trying to put the frighteners on you.

I could be sentenced up to one year imprisonment then suffer a possible death in custody at the hands of prison officers or other prisoners.

Any time someone is sent to prison their life is at risk. Prisons are extremely dangerous places.

Yes, quite.

As unpalatable as it may seem, I cant help thinking your best course of action will be to allow your defence to paint you as a crank and a fantasist, but a harmless one - having (presumably) no record of violence in your 54 years of life.

Good luck anyway.

I was disappointed that Peter stopped tweeting about a month before the indie ref. I was enjoying his tweets.

Question is, why did the Scottish police suddenly find Dow so offensive just then, when I've seen much more wacko stuff from him at other times? It couldn't be that that the political masters wanted their supporting wacko's silenced around then, could it?

Peter, I like what I've seen of you and hope that the verdict goes your way, both because I don't think that there's any genuine concern about you being a danger to anyone and also because there has been way too many hysterical over-reactions to this sort of thing.  Good luck on the 4th.

I quite like Peter, he's principled, I know he comes across as a bit of a crank sometimes, but he stands up for what he believes.

Hmmm, not really actually very principled, tho I'm quite surprised to see him admit it.

Because he's made clear with his posts here he's very prepared to compromise what he says if it will see him avoid prosecution. ;)
