sime
Because if you're trying to travel light then maybe it's all you've got? I travel light and wear my wellies to the festival but have some converse tied to my rucksack which I will then wear unless it rains. That being said, I'm not bothered by what people wear/don't wear. Although I do find the idea of paying more than ten pounds a bit weird for wellies but then if you care about being fashionable and wearing the 'in' thing then to that person it isn't weird. Bisque
I wear my wellies in, you never know what might happen to change the mud situation on arrival ie lots of people walking through the gates but keep a pair of semi waterproof trainers in my bag to swap too. They aren't the most fashionable sneakers about but I don't give a shit if I'm comfy, feet aren't unnecessarily being weighed down & you can walk around more quickly. Ex-missus had Croc boots, really light but relatively expensive for what you get but she was happy with not having to wear heavy boots. She wore cheap Primark pumps if it was hot but they used to quickly get ruined after a summer & soaked up water like a sponge. She also looked stupid wearing socks with them. Smeble
Colourful wellies and shorts is the height of fashion, isn't it?
Becks12
Cos it might rain, this is England Cos I like to go down the front for bands and getting a brute jump on your feet in trainers can hurt Cos they're quite comfortable really, I have some squidy insoles
Bisque
I reckon girls look quite sexy in short denims (or dress) & wellies. It's not particularly a fashion that suits a one particular body shape. It would look stupid in the high street though.
Peroni
I wear mine at night as I get cold... also even if it's not raining you can never be sure of what the ground conditions down on site maybe like...
grumpyhack
Because decent walking boots, which are much more comfortable, don't look 'cool'.
udders
This is the thing that worries me most about being a glasto newbie... Are the regulars really that bothered and judgemental about what people wear? I was going to treat myself to a new pair of wellies with a 'particular brand name' since they're trusted and might actually last the week. God help me if I wear them if it's dry now, I must only care about being fashionable
slash's hat
My answer is because we would break our neck in heels : ) But like couchy said packing light might mean one shoe option. Udders wear what you like, people are not at all judgmental when you're there - and sod em if they are!
sime
I paid 20 for my last pair from tk maxx, but they we're pretty comfy and done me 3-4 festivals I paid £7 for mine from Oswald and Bailey camping shop. They are very comfy and have so far been used at 10 festivals including Glastonbury and Bestival.

God help me if I wear them if it's dry now, I must only care about being fashionable Wear what you like, it's your festival as much as anyone else's. I would say though that my £7 plain black Dunlop wellies have done me proud over the years. I've never personally been interested in following fashions partly because I do not like 'society' sort of dictating to me what I should or should not wear but that being said, if you like following the trends, then who am I to poo poo that. You do whatever feels good for you udders
gorfield
for me its because you need to pack light and if you had to choose 1 pair of shoes for glasto it has to be wellies!! you are gonna be fucked if you choose your converse and its a mud bath!!! udders
That's made me feel tons better, thanks guys My other half got a pair of Dunlop wellies for leeds a couple of years ago sime and they're still in one piece so I might get a some to test through the winter! MrsT
Because even a light shower can turn the site into a mud bath! Keep a check on the weather and even if there's a slight threat of rain - it's wellies all day!
Astracat
This thread reminds me - I need new wellies. Though I did manage 2005's lake conditions with ankle boots lined with bin bags, tied in a fetching bow round my ankle (a layer of socks inside and out to keep all in place, snug and dry). Glad you are feeling more upbeat! I'm a naturist and whenever I go nude at Glastonbury, no one ever minds. It's the same with fashion. So just go for it! Do try the Dunlops! Wellies made from the same rubber as tyres has to be a good thing doesn't it!? I'm going to go with yes! Oh and welcome to the forum! It is a funny old place...! grumpyhack
Another joy of taking my caravan is that I can take a range of footwear - from waterproof walking shoes, through waterproof walking boots to wellies. I've rarely had to resort to the wellies. Generally it's walking boots for everyday use. Whatever your choice of footwear good socks are essential. And sod style - wet or sore feet are no fun, so take what's comfortable and wear them in first.
