Fair system?

I was one of the lucky ones, gutted for the ones who didn't...

It seems if your technically minded you have a better chance... i won't explain this, just do your homework..

I do feel that this is unfair for some... and then comes down to luck.

Secondly i have been going since 95, and feel now that there should be an option to purchase loyalty tickets.. i dont want free tickets, just guaranteed,

What do you think..

Just because you've been there a thousand times before doesn't mean you should be 'guaranteed a ticket'. Ridiculous assertion.

If you're technically minded you can maximise your chances, but it's not foolproof by any stretch of the imagination. I'm a network engineer by profession - I had a pretty extensive set-up this morning and didn't get off the holding page. It's still luck, even if you do the smart things to help yourself out. There's no fairer system apart from a straight lottery -- people don't think that's a nice idea as it would probably allow more 'undesirables' to get tickets.

If you really want a ticket, you will almost always get one. Just be smart about it and look into the secret resales etc.

Missed out this year after being successful for the last 6 festivals

I'm not particularly technical and did nothing special to get them in previous years, so hope the ticket system doesn't become down to how IT wise you are

Gutted as I am about missing out next year I do think it's good it's still random how tickets are allocated. Possibly a registration system then draw out of a ballot might be the way to go though. Sitting hitting the f5 key and not getting anywhere is so depressing!!

Yes its fair, the only people shouting and crying about the system are the ones who didnt get lucky, and thats all it is, luck

Of course you can improve your chances by being in groups and using muliple devices but that is just like buying more than 1 lotto ticket, it still doesnt mean you will win

I got twice but could not to payment page, luckily another one of our group got mine

Good luck in the resale

There isn't a fairer way unfortunately, I've been so lucky in that every time I've tried I've got tickets (today was my tenth). My mates always ask me what my secret is, but there isn't one. Just plain, dumb luck.

"Loyalty" tickets would be a serious mistake as they would dramatically reduce the number of new and younger people coming into the festival. We may think great but a closed shop would be disastrous for the long term future of GF.

I didn't get tickets today. I'd done my homework - was ready with all the numbers to cut and paste etc but I didn't get past the holding page. A neighbour a few doors away got in twice and bought 11 tickets. It's just luck pure and simple - nothing unfair about that. There will be more people who didn't get tickets than people who did.

All this is true, and besides which the people who deserve loyalty generally get it already - ie the people who contribute something to the festival or to its ethos get their places year on year. This can take multiple forms - the stall in the craft field that teaches kids how to make a basket, the people who cycle to the festival were offered a secret pre-sale the last couple years, the multiple performers who do multiple shows throughout the weekend to 10 people a time get invited back year on year.

i was lucky today, and got them in the resale for 2015, but failed 3 years previous !, i thinks its luck,,, the only improvement id like to see is if you make it too the booking page then it should secure your tickets for 2 mins or so, similar to ticket masters system. its sickening to get through, then enter details only too get a sold out while your entering your payment details etc!,

I agree, it's not technical knowledge or kit, just luck.

I got through on my outdated phone and our iPad, chromebook and an S6 failed.

I really feel for those who were unlucky, that has been me the last two years.

I sometimes think a ballot would be fairer but more people would try and it would create issues for large groups depending on the rules.

Fingers crossed for the resale for those of you who didn't get tickets today.

I tend to agree with most points made... I had volunteered to work at the info, if i wasn't lucky this year...

If its just down to luck so be it...

I also think once you are on the booking form, your in (subject to payment) here's to 2016, happy to help on the resale...

I do think the idea of a loyalty guarantee fairly wrong. Look at the threads of people saying the SE corner is boring. It's only fucking boring because some of us have seen it every year since 2008, not significantly more spectacular than 2010. I didn't go last year, but had to pull my jaw off the floor in 2014.

Would the festival be richer for having a load of highly organised, jaded middle aged people (like me), or full of awe struck youngsters with a zeal for the festival?

OK, the returners may 'get it', but I'm not sure they're better to have around than the newbies. Nobody has a right, if anything it'd be fairer to ban people from going five times in a row!

Posted this in the other thread, but....I think it's fair. The coach sale is a decent leveller too, between now and April (the resales are certainly no harder and maybe even easier), there are four bites at the cherry to get tickets. There's also secret resales etc - if you're really determined to go you have a better chance of going than someone who would quite like to go. There's no better way of deciding who gets to go IMO.

It's still the case that if you get lucky you think there's a special reason why you got lucky, and there's no sense of entitlement like a middle class sense of entitlement.

This.

The only reason we have managed to get tickets the last couple of times is that we had a group of 50 odd people trying for them. This system is probably as good as it can get in terms of fairness.

Agreed...its not good like this... i feel technical experience of ticket buying might give you an advantage

Where can I learn of this "technical experience of ticket buying"? Is it something i need to study for?

There is nothing technical about it, just luck, preparation and determination.

Each year I've been lucky to get through being the only one in my groups for quite a few years, each time they ask me how I do it. I do nothing different to them. I have my PC and Macbook set up the night before, all numbers and PC in word/notepad documents so I'm all ready to go on ticket day.

As for granted tickets as you've been for many years before, no no no..!

I attend a lot of football matches mostly home games to the team i follow. I would love to go to away games but the system they use dose not allow me.

To go to an away game you need to have "away points" to collect away points you need to go to away games which you can't collect as said away games sell out to those already with points so I have no chance of getting any points myself to attend said away games. So if Glastonbury started doing the same sort of thing there will be 100's of people that will never be able to attend as the we the regulars will always go before anyone else gets a look in.

What do you think..

Why? Why should there be?

Thing is, if you've been going that long, you've had a chance to get loyalty tickets. You go that many times, you talk to people, you chat to staff, socialise, get involved... by this point you will know someone who can get you in on a staff/performer ticket.

If you've just been a passenger for 20 years (and there is nothing wrong with that) then you won't, but then why should you have an advantage, you're no different from someone going for the first time, you're bringing just as much to it all.
