Something like Shambala?

Hey folks,

Already planning my 2016 festival schedule (got to have something to keep me going through the cold, dark winter!) and am desperately seeking a suitable festival that takes place end of July, early August. The idea is to try and space out festivals throughout the summer ending with Shambala followed by Festival No. 6. So we need something earlier in the Summer - any suggestions?

Shambala is an absolute favourite, love the small size, the friendly folks, the glitter & sequins and all the fancy dress - just awesome......is there anything else out there like it???????

Oh yeah not Secret Garden Party - which was great but a little bigger than we enjoyed.

Gah, I had a feeling that Shambala might be unequalled! Actually I can expand the window, June and July could work too.......just wanted to space our festival attendance as we can't afford to do too many in a year.......sadly!

So what's your first favourite festival 5co77ie???

The Green Gathering, 4-7 August, http://www.greengathering.org.uk/

It definitely does share some of Shambala's good points - being friendly and uncommercial - and it's right in your time window!

I've never been to Shambala but from what I know of it you might like Supernormal. It's in Oxfordshire early summer, reasonably priced, tiny, very friendly and very weird eclectic line up of music and workshops. I went last year as a friend was playing and had a wonderful time. There's no arena set up so you can take booze anywhere but food and drink is reasonably priced. It's great for kids and in a beautiful setting. Very chilled and never felt busy. I hope to go again next year. To me it was the perfect micro festival. I'd say about 1,500 punters.

Anyone know anything about Blissfields?

Yes, I've done Blissfields in 2014. Decent enough lineup, and nice and friendly. Lots of local teenagers there, which might be a good or bad thing, depending on your view. I don't think you can compare the two though really, Shambala is bigger, has a more diverse line up, more chilled, and more going on (especially after dark). It has an arena-style set up so you have to smuggle booze in, but this isn't a problem if you've done it before.

At times I've described Beat-Herder as like Shambala but with a northern sensibility - whatever that means! :D

Similar size, nice setting, run with love, up for it friendly crowd, fancy dress etc (perhaps not quite as stand-out as shambala in the fancy dress department but still plenty of it). Not so family friendly as shambala. I love it :)

Agree with lots of the suggestions above...

In the window that you're looking for perhaps you could look at Port Eliot now that it's been confirmed as going ahead next year... I really enjoyed it this year...

A bit different but exceptional value and quite friendly - you could try Y-Not...

Kerplunk's recommendation of Beat-Herder is spot on..

Blowing own trumpet, but do have a look at Once Upon a Time in the West Festival. Its run by a team who work/have worked Glastonbury, Boomtown, Endorse it in Dorset, Bearded Theory etc. Emphasis is on a grand old time with ska, swing, bluegrass, cowpunk, folk - list goes on. Tends on more of the " underground" bands, so previous acts have been Zen Hussies, Los Albertos ( who picked it as one of the few the played when getting back together for one season this year), Curtis Eller American Circus....This year we have The Destroyers, Dana Immanuel & The Stolen Band, Louis Barabbas & The Bedlam 6 and loads more to come ( including more headliners). Really friendly vibe and £65+bf  - down in Wiltshire 14-17th July. Website is on partly updated, so FB page is a bit more on it atm. Big launch in Jan with the new artwork, bands etc :)
