calaix
Oh Ride are very decent - hadn't realised they were from Oxford. Edited February 3, 2016 by calaix
weston24
Yeah, would definitely think Julia Holter will be in the Auditori. The people being there for Radiohead thing is going to be weird. Will the front 10 rows for let's say Beach House be people standing around waiting for Radiohead to come on two hours later? I wouldn't be surprised. Any guesses of what will be on the other stages when they're on? There will need to be some strong alternatives that are different enough to Radiohead. Dinosaur Jr maybe? Bort
For Radiohead? I know people don't do it at festivals in Europe like they do at U.S. fests, but more than the front 10 rows, surely. When I saw Radiohead at Coachella 2004, I arrived at the main stage over 3 hours before they started and couldn't get any closer than over a hundred meters from the front. And it was more than 40 °C that day. Edited February 3, 2016 by Bort
weston24
I do want to see them but I'm tempted to not bother and avoid that stage for the night.
Bort
I'm just glad I have VIP. Even the back of it would be a good spot for Radiohead.

DDave
Don't people drink at this festival?, doesn't sound like it to me. I'll be nearest the bar! So, assuming one rocks up at the beginning of say LCD's set, how close would one get to the stage comfortably get before it gets uncomfortable. i.e. no room to dance. I'm always one for getting down at the front left or right of stage which i've found quite easy at other festivals. Bort
Drugs are better for music than drinking, though.

weston24
I wouldn't think LCD would be so bad, I've got decent places not too far back for Arcade Fire, NIN, Blur and other headliners after turning up 5-10 mins before. With the ticket sales and everything it just seems like Radiohead will be a much bigger deal. Couldn't get anywhere near the stage or a bar during The Strokes last year. Wish I'd gone and watched the whole of Dan Deacon instead.
DDave
And while we're on it, what are the waiting times to get a beer?
weston24
I've only ever waited for beer at the bars between the main stages when the headliners are on and sometimes when the pitchfork stage is busy. The rest of the time its really quick I've always found. Edited February 3, 2016 by weston24
calaix
Waiting time at Field Day/Hyde Park for a beer last year - 10 -15 minutes Waiting time at Primavera for a beer last year - 10-15 seconds Does pay admittedly to choose your bar wisely as some do entail a short wait at peak times but for many you can just swan up. And I imagine an artist backed by a viola and standing bass would be drowned out by noise outdoors. Yeah... last year they made this mistake with Tobias Jesso Jr. He was playing the pitchfork stage, only him and the piano, and he was totally drowned out by the ATP stage (I think it was the New Pornographers). It was really a bummer, I really wanted to see him and even gave up on Patti Smith for him, but it was just awkward and noisy and not enjoyable at all, I ended up leaving early. As for Radiohead, usually people in Primavera don't do the 'waiting 4 hours for a band thing' - there's simply too much to see! I had no problems getting good spots for anyone arriving 30 minutes before. Only problem was the Strokes and we made it somehow to near the front. But Radiohead might be different, so it's anyone's guess. I think whoever plays there before, like Beach House, will play to a lot of bored Radiohead fans. 16 hours ago, StephenF said: My only issue is with people who will only really care about radiohead and will neglect the rest of the line up...it creates a strange atmosphere of ambivalence towards acts where primavera is usually the place they would receive enthusiasm. That's indeed an issue. Primavera crowd is usually very welcoming and warm. I remember watching the Replacements at Osheaga, in a crowd full of bored Arctic Monkeys fans who had no idea who the Replacements were. They looked at me weird for knowing the words. It was a great show but horrible atmosphere. At Primavera last year, we had great singalongs for the Mats... the atmosphere was amazing and the crowd was great. So yeah, Radiohead fans camping all day can certainly be problematic for Beach House/LSP/Animal Collective/whoever playing before.
calaix
Porto is out and it's a city with many charms, worthy of consideration by those who have missed out on BC. They have Brian Wilson and the lineup looks excellent to me, especially for the price. Another triumph for the organisers IMO.

yaniv297
Not bad for Porto. No Radiohead, LCD or Tame Impala but other than that it's pretty good.

The Replacements was definitely one of my all time Primavera highlights, great example. I guess that would have been very different if Radiohead were headlining. Oh well, it's only one day and the other two are stronger for me anyway. Great Porto lineup. Shame about the headliners but its to be expected. Peridot
I had a little 'When Harry Met Sally' moment as the Porto lineup was revealed. Very happy with that - it has everything I was hoping for and more. Now off to research the acts I'm not familiar with.

yaniv297
About the Suede auditori show, do you think we'll get an encore as well? or just the new album? They've been doing full album + another set on this tour, but since they're already doing the greatest hits a day before... it's a bit weird to repeat it. My dream is a Dog Man Star encore - 2 of Us into Asphalt World into Still Life. Like they've done here. It also perfectly fits the auditorium environment, and most of the hits would have been played in Wednesday so they might not want to repeat them... really hope this happens. calaix
My fear is that I will be forced to miss the Suede auditori as there will be so much good stuff elsewhere at 9pm or so. Woud be good if they always had their strongest auditori act on first but I appreciate why they don't do that and I dont see them changing their policy...
