PEARL JAM TO HEADLINE 2016

Jan is a bit like Michael Eavis when it comes to early confirmations, but anyway: last night, Jan Smeets from the Pinkpop festival (NL) confirmed that Pearl Jam will headline the festival in 2017. They were supposed to play this year, but pulled out due to the terrorist attacks in Europe.

I think a 2017 tour is certainly on the cards as recently they've been here every other year, but 2017 will make a 3 year gap. If so, they'll almost certainly headline a UK festival, so it remains to be seen which one. I'm sure Download, stuck in a mire of repeats would want them, and they'd be a good fit at IOW (again) or Reading (again).  But they may want to do Glastonbury and take the pay cut - they're not in it for the money as much as most bands.  I only hope Townshend and Daltrey had a word in Eavis' shell-like and made the case for them.

And for anyone thinking they don't attract a crowd in the UK, this was MK in 2014.

I don't see why. Your picture shows that they can pull a crowd to their own massive gigs and also weren't they pencilled in for two nights at the O2 this year instead of any festivals? With them being around early summer next year I can only see Isle of Wight having them (Download too heavy, Glastonbury won't want 'em) but even then I think it'll be their own shows instead.

I imagine Download will throw the kitchen sink at them. I wouldn't be surprised to see TOOL and Pearl Jam there next year. They are so desperate for fresh(er) headliners.

For that same reason I think Glastonbury will struggle to attract the rockier headliners over the coming years. They might struggle to be competitive against the desperation of Download of R/L.

Didn't really know where to post this, but Temple of the Dog have reformed and are doing a small tour of America. Could be... interesting. I wonder what else they have planned (new album?!)

I can confirm this is a good place to post that news.

It certainly seems that they're just doing a few shows to celebrate the anniversary and reissue so I don't expect much else in the pipeline. Certainly not the G word as Pearl Jam are already set to come back to Europe in June. Would love to see them but the most I'd expect is a single London show for silly prices that's instantly snapped up.

It will sell like hot donuts in the States. More shows will be added to the tour, and hopefully a shitload of European dates will follow. But please, for the love of god? Let the first time Eddie Vedder graces that pyramid stage, be as a headliner with Pearl Jam.

Is Eddie that involved? He only sung lead vocals on one song and backing on another.

They were all involved! Temple of the Dog was a tribute from various musicians in memory of Andrew Wood from mother love bone. It's a Seattle thing.
