Local v Regular Ticket Q

Hi All,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Here's the question:

My friend missed out on tickets in the original sale. We were desperate to get him one for his 30th birthday and were successful in the resale.

It now transpires that some other friends, who live locally and get free weekend tickets, also had the same idea and have also got him a ticket.

Both tickets are using the same registration number. He is slightly paranoid that the local ticket will disappear and as such he doesn't want to cancel the resale ticket without having the other ticket in his posession. His major fear is that cancelling one will cancel the other.

What should he do? Is this the kind of thing the GFL office could help with or is he in danger of putting his friends in it for getting him a local ticket when he is not a local person? Will cancelling one cancel both as they have the same reg number?

Any advice much appreciated!

My first question would be to your friends and how they got him a 'free' local ticket. These are usually only available to folks who live in Pilton Village and the immediate surroundings. I'm not aware if folks who are eligible actually have to apply or not using their registration number, but if they do then unless your friends registration address falls within the local ticket catchment it's unlikely that a free ticket would have been allocated to him.

Check this out first....if it checks out then fine....but if there is any doubt go with your gut and keep the resale ticket.

It is not possible to buy two tickets with the same registration number. Someone has made a mistake. If his registration number is matched with his postcode, how did the friends locally get him a ticket as his post code isn't 'local'? I'd be calling see tickets.

Local weekend tickets are only for people in the designated villages and on the electoral register. Individuals have a registration number and have to individually apply.

The "friends" who have seemingly got him a local ticket have done something not right and I would suggest that the resale ticket is the correct option. It will possibly go wrong when the "friends" go to pick up their tickets on the given date, they are not posted and are collected in person.

Thanks all,

Yeah it all seems a little curious to me, he's gone from panicking about not having a ticket to potentially having two. I think he should stick with the resale ticket too and not put too much hope in a ticket that to me seems like it could have issues.

PS Looking forward to the ground updates Digger!

Don't forgot tho that any "locals ticket" can be transferred to anyone as long as they have a valid registration number. So it is possible that they got him a legitimate locals ticket and did it the right way! I know this is right cos this is how i got lucky with a ticket last year, my friends transferred their locals ticket to me.

If you put the registration number into seetickets tracker it should tell you which ticket you have got with it! It works for locals tickets too(it did last year anyway!)

I thought you needed the booking reference, plus either the postcode of the ticket holder or the last 4 digits of the payment card?

Not aware of being able to use your Reg number to track with.....?

I am sure last year i put in reg number then my postcode and it came up with confirmation of my number as holding a locals ticket. I only remember because i was thinking the transfer hadn't gone through, as every time i put my number in it said no ticket had been booked with that number, turned out i was putting my old registration number in! As soon as i put the up to date one in it came up straight away that i had a ticket!!

My understanding is that local tickets are non-transferable ?

I have a friend with a local ticket, she's moving house soon (still in local area) and is having problems even changing the delivery address, let alone transferring a ticket to someone else...

Also can't imagine that many locals get 'free' tickets.

I only live a couple of miles away, I can buy a local ticket or work the Festival and get a ticket that way, but no freebie....

All sounds a bit odd !

There is local tickets and there is local tickets. As far as I am aware locals of the village get free tickets which don't have photographs on and it is accepted that they may give them away or sell them. There is also local tickets for places a little further out (Wells, Shepton Mallet etc) who don't get them free but there is some put aside for those people to increase their chances. I would imagine his is a free local one and that is how the mix up has happened.

You are wrong. Local (Villagers) tickets have photos the same as everybody else, they are marked to show they are villagers however. It is NOT accepted that they are given away or sold on. Touting is Touting.

Local tickets have an additional feature which allows the holder to transfer the ticket over to another person by filling in their name on a Transfer voucher. The new person then has to present the original ticket, the Transfer voucher and the Pass Out ticket (if the ticket has already been used and the original ticket holder has been wristbanded) to be able to get into the festival. It is a very confusing mess when your checking normal entry ticket and staff accreditations and then you suddenly get a Local ticket holder. Thankfully most Local ticket holders use the special gate (Village Gate) set up for them at the top end of Muddy Lane.
