How do they decide the where and when?

After studying the line up and stages, it blows my mind as to how they must organise the whole thing.

There is also numerous threads on here mentioning where will so and so play? who will play 3rd down on such and such stage. Out of curiosity does anyone have any idea on the logistics behind the scenes?

I appreciate there is managers/teams for each stage/area and for some acts it will be quite obvious as to which stage/area they should play.

Do the area managers end up fighting over a particular act? I have it in my head that they have a meet round the back of the cow sheds to sort it?

How do they decide who plays 5th down or 6th down is it purely down to sales or are other things taken into account like popularity on social media etc.

I struggle to organise a bbq in the garden and deciding on a play list for it! so to organise an event like Glastonbury............Wow!
