Finding Bands You'd Probably Like

I usually rely on random bimbling around the site to take me to new bands that I might or might not like. Doing a similar thing on the interweb I stumbled across this site: www.music-map.com

You type in the name of a band you like, it thinks a bit then fills up the screen with a swirly mass of other band names - then moves them around so that 'your' band is in the middle and the nearest ones to it are those most like it...

Just another form of bimbling, but quite entertaining,

Cute. Worked well for indie bands for me, less well for the variations of funk/soul. It put Michael Jackson closer to Prince than Funkadelic for example.

Yes, there is a certain LOL-factor to it.

I put in Wagner and it suggested Syd Barrett, the Acid Drinkers and Mental As Anything.....

I look on it as proof that software can also display a waggish sense of humour.

ok so this is wot i do EVERY year and its sort of worked .......sort of when im not too hammered to be bothered lol .......

when the WHOLE line up comes out every band on every stage the A/Z line up ......i print off a few pages and i go on to you tube and listen to every single one and give them marks outa 5

so it goes like this

pearl jam.. 5+++

jay z..0+

jess stone....2 maybe

taylor swift ...3+

royal blood..4

ect

ect

then i have that in my wagon and i have a good idea of who i DONT want to see.....it works for me old sons

I use the clash finder,a lot of people don't know this well my friends didn't but if you hover over an act, YouTube, sound cloud etc symbols appear, then just click on one of them and have a listen and if you like them Highlight them,easy.

Pandora app is superb for this. Last.fm is good as well.

I only listen to the bands that get loads of play on Radio 1 and win awards at The Brits etc. Anything else must be rubbish surely?
