Camping and Nightlife Questions

Hi, this will be my first time and I had a few questions about camping the night before and the general times in which the nightlife/food stalls shut for the night:

1. We'll be driving down to the festival from Scotland early on Tuesday and even with a a slow drive we'll probably still arrive at the festival early evening. Is there a Tuesday overnight camping area and if so what time does it open, is there any sort of festival-like atmosphere and is the area near where we queue for the festival?

2. What are the rough opening times of the food stalls and the nightlife? I just want to know if there'll still be decent food being served in the early hours of the morning and whether or not there is entertainment until 4am, 5am, 6am etc. or whether we'll have to make-do with our own entertainment in our camping area.

Thanks in advance!

there'll be food stalls open somewhere on the site 24 hours a day - tho not necessarily in the same field as you're in at the time. But for all the while there's entertainment in a particular feild you're likely to find the food stalls in that field open.

There's no camping on Tuesday night, tho you are permitted to spend the night in the car parks waiting for when the gates open.

There's always food available from somewhere, but in the small hours it might be a fair walk from where you are (depending where you are). Programmed entertainment runs from around 11am until 6am (or is it 8am?) from Fri-Sun, with some lesser stuff on Thursday and perhaps wednesday.

If you are planning on arriving in the area Tuesday evening there are a few campsites fairly local to the site you could use for the night, get a good nights sleep and then go onto site Weds morning, If you're looking at a 12 hours drive or so that would be better than trying to sleep in your vehicle in the car park IMO, there's not much happening in the car parks Tuesday night and few facilities, it won't be much fun after a long drive. As an alternative rest up, set off later on Tuesday and arrive on site between 6 and 8 a.m. Wednesday, they'll be less traffic during the night so a shorter journey. Gates open 8 a.m. but it will take you a good hour or two and possibly longer to get on site depending on which gate you are at and how the queueing is going. We travel from the north of england 5 - 6 hour drive and usually set off midnight Tuesday, get into the carpark 6 a.m. and join the queue for the gates, on a bad year it's taken 6 hours to get in, on a good one 1.5- 2 hours. Once you are on site (within the fence) you will have no problems getting food or entertainment - it's a 24 hour a day festival.

How come it takes so long to get in if you start queuing at 6am? If gates open at 8am and we are getting their earlier than most people, how come it can still take so long? Is there anyway to make sure we're closer to the front of the queue?

4 gates and something daft like 100k people in in the first 5 hours. It just takes a while. 2011 took us 5 hours, 2014 took us 1.5 - arrived at pretty much the same time to the minute!!

Its a fair old walk as well!

the place doesnt shut so food music ect you can find it any time of the day/ night as for getting there early ...as early as you get there theres 100s more that will have gotten there before you lol

one tip ill add is if you happen to start queing right out side gate A dont stay there for too long lol we did this last year thought we were first in que and sat down and had a chat with a few others only to be told by security 2 hours later that the que started in the car park lol by time we walked round to the car park there were 100S of people and so we ended up half way down the line lolol

I can personally recommend the Isle of Avalon campsite, which is 10 mins walk from Glastonbury town centre (I've stayed there a few times). You can pitch there on Tuesday, camp up, have a decent pub dinner & a few drinks in town, then get up early next morning, use their very nice shower/loo facilities and drive the few miles to Pilton and the festival car parks. My friend did this last year and didn't get stuck in any queues. Worked perfectly.

The queuing system outside is a bit shambolic and just because you're in a queue doesn't necessarily mean people coming later than you won't get in earlier. See the Gate D saga from last year, awful scenes.

I'll be doing exactly this. Its great.

Only you need to remove the space after the .co.uk/ in the link. Its a bit stroppy!
