First-time, going solo, coming from the States

Hello olmada111

The one major piece of advice I'd give is to use the free 24 hour lock ups to store your valuables eg passport, excess cash etc - especially overnight. That's not to suggest the festival isn't a safe place, it is. It's just that some robbery from tents does go on.

Don't pitch your tent at the bottom of a slope if it's going to rain heavily during the festival.

Don't pitch your tent next to the toilets.

Don't pitch your tent next to a quiet generator that will not be so quiet at night when it's switched on.

Do read this;

Have fun. Lots of fun.

Agree with Yog, the Glastoearth guide is excellent.

Also, don't camp next to a path, especially the metal tracks, you won't believe how loud people's foot steps are in the middle of the night!!!! I know, i've done it.

Bring ear plugs.

Depending on when you arrive and which gate may determine where best to camp, although squeezing in a one man tent should be do able in most camp areas, even when they appear full, just head towards the middle of the camping field to find space, around the edges is always more full.

You will find most people are very friendly, so being on your won shouldn't be a problem.

Just to add to what the others have said, there is usually an eFests meet up so get along to that. get involved in the chat as well. i went solo last year and got involved in one of the solo camping threads started last year. Ended up camping with about 20 other solo's from around the world. Made some great friends from it.

Have fun! :D

Go with the flow and talk to the person next to you on all occasions and you won't be alone for very long. Most groups are happy to encompass strangers and have another person to swap stories with.

It is more or less the friendliest place on earth.

If you aren't a good walker now - go and do some practice now as you will need to walk for miles to get the best from the festival.

Hi!

I'm coming to Glastonbury for the first time, alone, and I'd love to make some new friends and meet people to experience the festival with.

Is there a good place to meet up with other solo festival-goers? Any advice on doing glastonbury alone?

Thanks!

Hello there!

Whereabouts are you coming from in the States? My boyfriend and I come over from LA every year. I seem to recall writing a hints and tips post for another American traveller last year..will try and dig it out..
