Album of the year?

Just finished writing up our albums of the year at work, so I thought I'd ask in here, too. What was your favourite? Don't think it was a vintage year, but I've certainly made some new discoveries. My winner would be Are We There by Sharon Van Etten by a short head from Turn Blue by The Black Keys, who I've never had much time for in the past. Love that album, though. War On Drugs also worthy of a mention....What about you?

Cheers for starting this thread.

It's going to give me plenty of stuff to catch up on over the next while.

My mate who is a bit of an anorak for this stuff (in a good way), has been urging me to check out Hookworms, Ought, Real Estate and Inventions from his own albums of the year list.

I enjoyed Hookworms. Very noisy!

Surprised I'm the only person to pick Run The Jewels so far. Honestly, check it out, the more I listen to it the more I think it's one of the best hip hop albums I've ever heard.

I agree it's class... Only listened once right through and then individual tracks, but it's definitely the best hip hop album in years that I've heard

Having not heard a lot of new stuff of late I'd have to say Jungle , the style of it took me back to when I was a jazz funk boy, it has that Sth American sort of feel to it that I like.

U2- Songs Of Innocence

/endthread :P

My favourist has to go to Jack White - Lazaretto, likely my most played of the year to, beat my expectations and the vault package edition gives me great joy to own :P

The 2 Bears - The Night is Young, a close second and recent entry but suprisngly fantastic all the way through!

Honorable mentions for Wild Beasts - Present Tense, Metronomy - Love Letters which both lived up to expectations but didn't excede them I think.

The Horrors - Luminous and Jungle also impressed me, didn't expect at all to like them as much as I did!

Lots of other acts seemed to have some great tracks (Kasbian/Band of Skulls/Temples/Pixies/Chvches) but not many held me for an entire album really.
