ColdSideofthePillow
Or does it really matter? As I'll be attending using the coach service on the Wednesday and entering through Gate A, is it just worth plotting up at the nearest site to me or shop around as they say?. Where do you prefer to pitch up your waterproof bad boy? Where is the hippest happeningist place to camp?
Waapster
It really depends what you are looking for. Torts Guide is a helpful starting point with pics of most fields. I rather liked Hawkwell last year, looked across the site, could hear pyramid, easy to get across to other stage and relatively quiet at night. Mr Splodge
It's very personal as said earlier wait for the line up then decide what's best for you. If you are traveling alone there was a thread for lone travellers last year, the camp was called camp Ralph and they all camped together. This, have a search for Camp Ralph, not sure if there will be a repeat, but certainly seemed to work well. They even got t-shirts lol (Mind you, so did we)
ColdSideofthePillow
I've had a look for the camp Ralph topic but can't see it can anyone send me a link? Cheers
kalifire
Camp Ralph went for Michael's Meed this year, a little too far away from everything to attract me to join, if I'm honest. I ended up camping in Pennards and had no issues at all.
ColdSideofthePillow
I wonder where the Ralph heads will choose this year. To be honest just being at glasto is enough to make me HP. But interesting to hear people's thoughts on places they prefer etc...
craigyb31
We crashed in Pylon, next field on from gate a, easy enough to get to siver hayes, other stage, jp but also quiet on a night, compost toilets to which was a bonus. Will be heading there next year again

H.M.V
Hi, we won't be doing another thread this year but the Camp Ralph flag will be there again next year. The reason we won't be doing another solo travellers thread is that we have met and made some good friends and some of us will be camping again. So that in itself means that its not a solo travellers gang. There were issues before our incarnation with a particular group for solo travellers becoming cliquey and we are mindful of that. So I would suggest starting your own thread for next year and if you want any advice on how to organise it I will be more than happy to help. Here is the thread the others have mentioned and no we wont be in Michaels Mead again next year. Most likely Dairy or Bushy. http://www.efestivals.co.uk/forums/topic/184687-ok-so-lets-get-it-organised-anyone-going-solo-want-to-join-forces/?hl=%20lets%20%20organised
Gnomicide
What really happened is we all decided to tell HMV it wouldn't be happening again so she won't camp with us. Keith and Titters drew the short straw so they're camping with HMV in Dairy while the rest of us meet in Michael's Meed. Don't tell her. Pear_Cider
Hmmm...was Camp Ralph starting to become too much like a reincarnation of ? Pity, groups like that are good for loners...especially first-timers.
H.M.V
Hmmm...was Camp Ralph starting to become too much like a reincarnation of ######? Pity, groups like that are good for loners...especially first-timers. No, not a chance. We only me last year and not doing another solo traveller thing again next as per my post above. Hence why I said to start a new thread and if any advice needed I'll be more than happy to help.
Keithy
As HMV said, it'd be a bit self defeating to do Camp Ralph again. It was for a bunch of solo campers who didn't know anyone. This year we won't be in the same boat as we now know people there. As one of the organisers, more than happy to give anyone advice for setting up a similar camp this year. Neil was really helpful, setting up a private group for us which was great for coordinating the finer details and sharing private info. I think previous camping groups have got cliquey as the same people went every year and it was difficult for new people to join in with an existing group which is primarily why we won't we organising organising camp ralph again as it was a one off for glasto 2014. Some of the 'Ralphers' have got tickets for 2015 and we'll probably all camp in the same area but nothing formally organised like last year. From my experience, it's best for a camping group to evolve organically through the boards rather than trying to add to an existing one, particularly as in our case it was for a group of campers who didn't know anyone at glasto which won't be the case in 2015. Keithy
But as far as best camping spots, Micheals Mead wasn't chosen as necessarily the *best* spot but rather they outcome of everyone voting on where to stay. MM won the vote, narrowly from Bushy if I recall. I don't think there is necessarily a *best* place to camp. Aside from you won't spend too much time in your tent, it depends more on what you want. Places like Pennards are well established 'party' camping , nearer the SE corner, whereas Pylon and Hitchens are much quieter as they are further away. grumpyhack
I still think where you camp depends on the music you like. If you are likely to end the evening on the East side you don't then want a long trek across the site to your tent on the West when you are tired and emotional. So it's worth the initial long trek when you arrive to a camping area that's closer to the stages/places that match your musical tastes. kalifire
Camp Ralph is so 2013/14. If you want to camp with others, just start a thread and say so. There will be plenty of others going by themselves and with a bit of organising you can do your own thang, gurl. I totally support this idea of only running a solo group once, and abandoning it as the 'eFests solo camping spot' the following year. That pretty much destroys it from becoming cliquey and lets everyone start on a level playing field every year. Hats off to HMV & co. for having the wisdom and foresight to do things privately, if they end up deciding to camp as the friends they now are. We'll all meet at the Wednesday evening get together anyway Edited October 12, 2014 by kalifire
Gnomicide
Just to echo the comments above. The whole point of the solo camping thing is that no-one knows anyone else. As soon as it becomes some of the people who camped together last year plus those wishing to join this year, it immediately puts the new joiners in a less comfortable position. It should be a whole new beast each year. Some of my favourite memories from last year where the initial getting to know each other bits. The realisiation that calling youself something akin to your actual name was a much better proposition when it comes to meeting other people than some of the more unusual board names. Picture the scene..... "Hi, I'm Dave from Pompey" "Hi Dave, I'm Kicking Squealing Gucci Little Piggy" Another favourite bit was the roll call after a few drinks had been taken. You had to be there but it was very funny.
