Tipi Questions

Hi All,

I was lucky enough to get a ticket on Sunday. This will be my 7th Glastonbury and I can’t wait.

I’m going with my partner and it will be his 3rd, but he is coming on the condition that we hire a Tipi for the additional comfort / reduced stress (we have 4 other friends willing to share the cost).

I had a couple of questions I was hoping you could help me with.

What is the demand like for Tipis and how likely am I to get one? Is April 1st like T-Day all over again and there is a scramble for them?

Secondly, do I need to have paid off the balance of my ticket before being able to reserve one? i.e. 9am rush to pay the balance, followed by a second rush to book a Tipi?

Very keen to hear about people’s past experiences. I would be gutted to be looking forward to the festival for the next 8

months to then potentially have to pull out in April.

Many thanks!

Thanks for the heads up. Certainly not expecting luxury, but will appreciate avoiding the Wednesday rush for a pitch and the extra space around the tent. Plus not having to take anything down on the Monday.

Apparently they're cooler during the day too which will hopefully lead to an extra few hours of kip over the course of the 5 days.

Can anyone give me a bit more guidance on the sales process?

Tipis are available to book when balance payments open. But I'd suggest you have to be very quick off the mark at 9am on 1st April to bag one (note: I'm assuming it'll be 1st April again).

The tipis are provided by Hearthworks, based in Glastonbury http://www.hearthworks.co.uk/. I've not stayed in one at Glasto (though friends have), but have used them at Camp Bestival (6 man) and Shambala (2 man). The tipis are ace. Literally loads of space, airy and cool. Hearthworks install rain catchers in their tipis, which close off the hole at the top and direct rain down the outside. You may get some slight leakage around the door flap and some dripping from the centre hole if it really p*sses down, but you won't usuallyget wet. Plus, if you do get an issue, there are staff onsite who will come and sort it out.

I'm not sure about having to pay the ticket balance before booking one - might be worth double checking the info on booking tipis on the Glastonbury Festival site nearer the time. This is what it said for this year's fest: "Tipis will be available to book when paying your ticket balance (from 1st -7th April 2014). To make a booking you will be required to enter the registration number you used when booking your Festival ticket."

I think they sold out within the first hour last year (dim memory). But I could be wrong...

If I recall correctly, they're an option when you pay the balance (i.e. you can add one to the order and pay in one big transaction). Alternatively, you could pay your balance first and then order one. I don't think you can get one without paying the balance, though.

I'm keen to book one this year but it's only me and a friend going, and we don't want to pay nearly £500 each! We're looking for a couple of others to share with to bring the cost down, but I'm not sure how that will work.

  • This is from the Hearthworks website:
  • "Remember that you must have booked and paid in full for at least one ticket before you can book or hire a Tipi tent at Glastonbury Festival, and the price for Tipi hire at Glastonbury 2015 is separate from the cost of your Festival tickets."

Since they do sell out so quickly, I assume it must be something you do as one transaction - pay for the tix then book the tipi. I am hoping for one this year too, but we're traveling from overseas and other options for pre-erected camping or "glamping" are selling out fast, so we're going to have to have a deposit down (and lose part of it) in order to have a backup option. Kind of too bad the festival doesn't let you book these earlier!
