Jemma89
Hi, I hope you don't mind me posting on here. My name is Jemma and I'm a freelance journalist working for a number of national newspapers and magazines. With this in mind, I'm currently looking for elderly festival goers that would be interested in talking to me about their experiences of going to a number of different festivals and why they still enjoy it. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to chat to me about this for a potential article or knew of anyone that loves festivals and can't stop attending despite getting older. If you do know of anyone, please don't hesitate to get in touch on here. I would be able to read any article back before publication to make sure they are completely happy with it all. Again I hope you don't mind me posting on here. Kind regards, Jemma
jeffie
Two words, Elderly and older. Specify what you mean please?
5co77ie
do you mean retired, or over 30?
BA4 4BY
I take it there's no great rush for this article then?! I'm 48 if that's any use, although I didn't start going to festivals until I was 41.
Thearg
Seems pretty obvious to me that with the use of the word elderly that that's exactly what it means,an article about 30 somethings going to festivals wouldn't make for interesting reading. grumpyhack
I'm younger than Dolly but I've got my free bus pass and a B&Q Old Farts Card. Does that make me old enough? You might also look up the thread on the Old Gits and Hags meets. Edited July 23, 2014 by grumpyhack
Yoghurt on a Stick
I've sent Jemma a PM identifying her forgetfulness about this thread. Edited July 24, 2014 by Yoghurt on a Stick
Penrhos
At 52 I thought I'd be too old for Glasto - and so did some little twat in Glade on Thursday night who told me "go home granddad". Should have seen his face when he saw me still bouncing up & down at the end of Sasha's set. You're never too old for Glasto - it would be a good place to die! Yoghurt on a Stick
and so did some little twat in Glade on Thursday night who told me "go home granddad". You should have told him that you were at 'home' - ie. indicating it's your spiritual home. I'd have been tempted to tell him to go fuck himself for good measure, but realise that approach isn't for all.
pinkie849a
I didn't start going till 2000. Only missed one since then. I'm 68 now and it is indeed my "spiritual home". The moment each time the wristband goes on is a wonderful/gorgeous thing.
themuel
We took my nan when she was 75, is that any good?

Yoghurt on a Stick
I'd also love to take my dad there, as well as my mom. The problem is they believe it's all just a hedonistic free for all. This is where I'd probably find myself back footed a little!
themuel
She really wants to go again but she's 82 now and I think it would be too much for her these days unfortunately.
Yoghurt on a Stick
She really wants to go again but she's 82 now and I think it would be too much for her these days unfortunately. That's such a shame. Is there no way you could achieve it? I'm thinking along the lines of using a camper van and wheeling her around the festival in a wheel chair. It would be bloody hard work I know, but wouldn't you just love to give her one last hurrah? If the cost of a camper van is an issue then you can borrow ours for free. The only downside is that it only has a fixed double bed. One of your family would have to sleep with her, or sleep in an awning that goes with the campervan. Anyway, PM me if you are interested, as I'd love to help out if I can.
grumpyhack
It's all very well having a campervan but how are you going to get from the CV Fields into the site? I've only stayed in CV East where there is one heck of a hill to tackle in a wheelchair.
Yoghurt on a Stick
It's all very well having a campervan but how are you going to get from the CV Fields into the site? I've only stayed in CV East where there is one heck of a hill to tackle in a wheelchair. No idea grumpy, as I've never stayed in the camper van fields before so don't know what they are like. Maybe one of the pre - erected tent sites or even a tipi might be better suited in this case.
grumpyhack
Getting from the site up to CV East requires navigating a hill not dissimilar to the walk up to the Stone Circle. You'd probably be better off staying in a decent tent in the main site with a good bed. Another option might be to pick a festival where the site is a lot flatter. My first fest of the season tends to be Wychwood at Cheltenham Racecourse where pretty well everything is flat and the main arena areas are on tarmac on the outside of the racecourse.
