If it isn't on any menus then I'm sure you'll be able to get some chips and then ask for a ladle of gravy at a pie stall, etc. I'm sure you'll get your national dish. It is a bit of a delight, even for a southern ponce like me

All the burger/chips places near the Pyramid do gravy, curry sauce etc.

Oh, and they definitely will not do peas pudding and chips. That seems to be confined to certain parts of the north as far as I can tell.

I moved 'down south' to Northampton many years ago and shortly after arriving popped to the chippy and asked for "Chips and Gravy". The bloke looked at me like i'd just said "i want to sleep with your wife" before telling me they didnt do gravy.

When i went into work next day I explained to my colleagues (southeners) that I couldn't get chips and gravy and the response was 'why would you want chips with gravy?'

I moved back 12 months later

Even if I found Gravy anywhere south of Warrington, I'm not sure i'd trust the 'southeners' to get it right.

Northampton is the south. Basically its anywhere south of Knutsford.

Right choice. Call me racist, but those funny people beyond Derbyshire can keep their quail's eggs and Noma wannabes. There's nowt wrong with high sodium gravy and high lard Yorkshire puddings.
