mbarr
Hi, I was just wanting a bit of reassurance / advice from the collective minds on here. This will be my 7th Glastonbury (I don't know what I'll do when I fail to get a ticket!) but I;m going with a bigger group this time. I usually arrive on the Wednesday lunchtime - early evening and set up camp with 2-4 small tents in Oxylers (love being opposite the Other Stage, near the dance village and railway track and of course some good toilets) and never really had any bother getting a space. This year we have one large 10 man tent which measures about 4x7m but I'll be arriving on coach at 9.30 on the Wednesday. I know it completely depends on where people choose to camp but do seasoned festivalers reckon we'd have a chance of getting a space around Oxylers again? Our back up is to try Dairy Ground but never camped there so not sure how busy it generally gets. Any tips for a huge tent much appreciated! oh and 20 days to go!! pie_and_a_pint
You've got much more change arriving early. That is a HUGE tent though, so you'll have to accept that it just might not fit, and be prepared to head further out if necessary. And for god's sake take a trolley to carry the thing or you'll break your backs - it must weigh a TON!
mbarr
Yeah we're prepared to accept being a bit further out. Handily it comes in 3 bags so actually not too bad to carry. And actually I think it takes up less room than the 4-5 smaller tents we'd need for the same number of people, we just don't have the advantage of being able to set the tents up in a bit of an odd layout and need a good square of space
pentura
10 Man tent.. WOW! This is what comes to mind..

pentura
That's a pretty huge tent! How many of you are staying in it? Should be room for it providing you get a nice spot and have nice neighbours who won't complain it's too large. Out of curiosity what are the specs on that behemoth? mbarr
7.1x4m. Which is actually smaller than the space 4-5 3-4 man tents would take. There'll be 12 of us I. Total in there, although only 3 of us on the Wednesday night so our neighbours might think we're taking the piss at first!!

SKYY
my tent is 4.55 x 2.60, it does taper in a tiny bit at the porch so approx 11.50 meter square / one person = 11.50msq per person your tent is 7.10 x 4.00 = 28.4msq / 12 people = 2.37msq per person I figure a large part of it is not sleeping accommodation and is maybe single skin Edited June 7, 2014 by SKYY
justperfect
We have the kalahari 8........it's f'kin awsome !!!!!! There was plenty of tent jealousy when we erected it last year (in dairy btw). there'll be plenty of room for 12 if you utilise the central living quarters. If you're a seasoned camper id strongly advise you buy the porch to fit aswell, maybe not for glastonbury tho Edited June 8, 2014 by justperfect
mbarr
Oh we have the porch which gives us a bit of extra space for 12 pairs of dirty boots!! When we went it was erected already in the shop so we had a little trial lie down. It's double skinned with a central living bit and sleeping sections at the end. Might be a bit tight for the 2 nights we have 12 people but it is 10 most nights and knowing a few if my friends they will be sleeping as the rest are getting up. 11.5msq for one person sounds a lot! I guess if we're stuck for space we know where to head ;-)

SKYY
People will always find someone to blame for something ... anything So, a four man tent for one person...and people blame lack of room on gazebos!
