Willy Vlautin, with more than a little help from Amy Boone, meets Dan Penn at the dark end of the street. My only concern with this, such as it is, is that I like it so much immediately rather than having to spend just a little time to let it work its way with me. I've pretended there won't be a World Cup on and booked my tickets.

Band Of Horses: Acoustic at The Ryman

Ah, the essence of the old sound. Reassuringly back to what I liked best about them, after the rather dispiriting turn evidenced by the last studio album in particular.

If you have any sort of affinity with this lot, you will quite correctly identify this as indispensable. You will not be wrong. Since I suspect this may be deleted before Father Christmas starts on his preliminary lists, get the 3 CD+DVD set now, rather than the perfectly OK but completely inadequate single disc version.

First of all, you think doesn't he sound old on this, second you think well this is indeed album 453, third you think uh oh, fourth you think wow it all comes together and works brilliantly. No new soil turned here, just the old worked till it sparkles.

Any views on the Allo Darlin ? Not a great LP but Bright Eyes and in, particular, History Lessons are stuck on n my brain, and Liz's singing quite brilliant.

I like the record - it's AD, what's not to like? However, although I know they are making a virtue of going back to basics, I actually prefer the fuller sound of Europe - and I think the songs were stronger
