Hi all, apologies if this has been posted before (I have tried searching but nothing came up!) my husband and I will be taking our 1 year old to Glastonbury this year, we missed last year for obvious reasons (due date was 09/06) we have done Glasto a few times before but never with a child. I was just wondering if anyone had any helpful tips regarding taking a child, where to go, essentials to take etc. Cheers :-)

In no particular order...

Check out kids field. At the back there is the NCT tent. Free (with a donation) baby baths, hot water, and all the stuff you need (shampoo etc. even towels!). Also have baby food. Really useful. Massive sandpit too. Lots of other handy stuff too (food etc) plus children centred things, though I think there is plenty to see around the site.

Took tiny blow up paddling pool before to use as baby bath, this also worked well. Warmed water in entrance to tent plus a bit from stove.

If you're using it, ready made up baby milk for emergencies and convenience.

Waterproof oversuit (NFC NFR obviously). Lots of suncream...

Kiddy ear defenders.

Emergency snacks galore. Ours were pretty much weaned so we fed them normal food we brought or bought from site - no issues at all.

Buggy with big wheels and sleeping bag (I bought cheapo one from argos and cut holes to poke buggy straps thru, worked a treat) you can put them to bed in so you can carry on a bit later, then really easy to quickly lift out and pop into bed. We also used a fleece onesie for sleeping, warm and easy to take on/off etc. Does somewhat depend on your normal sleeping arrangements. One slept in a double sleeping bag with us (1yr old - care re: co-sleeping etc.), the other (3yrs) in a ready bed.

Calpol. We took nappies etc, don't know if you can buy on site but guess you probably can, bit of a pain thou so prob better bringing.

It's harder work with kids but no less fun when prepared. You have to do things a bit differently but still love it. Move fields at sensible times to avoid crushes. Stay a bit near the back. Obviously spare clothes kept somewhere you know they'll be dry. Rug to sit on and (sorry) chairs. Clearly not making annoying circles to keep people out but to allow you to sit with nipper and feed etc. Baby carrier v helpful but depends on weight I guess.

  • 2 weeks later...

Make use of the property lock ups - you can drop your buggy off at night and we tended to leave a bag of various baby supplies in a lock up closer to where we spent most if our time so we didn't need to walk all the way back to the tent. The NCT tent in the kidz field is an amazing place to retreat to for a kip or for facilities and supplies.
