Will Radio 1's Big Weekend damage T 2014?

With Radio 1's Big Weekend taking place in Glasgow (and 95% of tickets reserved for those living in Scotland) do you think that it taking place could damage both ticket sales and the line up for T? Why would people pay over £200 for a three day music festival when there is a three-day festival with a similar calibre of acts for just £15 in a central location?

Additionally, would acts travel to Scotland twice in a few months to play two different festivals? While I expect there to be a fair bit of overlap (another reason why people may not buy T tickets), I think a lot of bigger acts might play R1BW instead of T.

I notice that DF are promoting Big Weekend too.

It will inevitabley have an effect, but to what degree isn't obvious.

The alternative argument is that people unsure about getting a T ticket have a good time or see certain acts for very little money and then if impressed are keener to shell out £200 to see them again a few weeks later.

Basically, nobody knows and it's complete conjecture.

Managed to get tickets for both the Saturday and Sunday for the big weekend but I don't see it having that much of an effect on TITP.

With regards to acts travelling back a few months later, I don't see that being a problem. Money talks and for the bigger acts travelling is part of their daily routine anyway.

Didn't even realize the ticket release had happened, bugger. Depends on how many like for like acts there are really, Pharrell and Paolo probably being the biggest that T will also have (not that T will be too bothered if Saturday has sold out). These weekend events always seem more a novelty than your standard festival though

  • 2 weeks later...

If anyone knows of any spare tickets going for this Id be forever in their debt.

Im also getting rid of an under face value weekend ticket for T (bought through the instalment scheme and have since purchased a Thursday Weekend camping ticket) if anyones interested.Apologies if this kind of thing is frowned upon.

No chance with them playing Murrayfield. Pretty strong lineup, don't agree that it pisses over T though, these events still shouldnt be held in the same regards, its not unusual for them to have 'headliner' level bands on at the start of the day and such, its mostly a promotional exercise for most involved.

Kasabian playing a warm up gig in my town a few days before it, nice.

Calvin Harris announced as a sub for Big Weekend. I've seen quite a few people on Facebook this morning who have tickets for both T and Big Weekend saying they're going to sell their T tickets because they'll now see Calvin and a whole host of other people they would have seen at T.
