first time at eotr this year - took my 16 year old daughter to Kendal Calling last year & have been to Belladrum a few times -(plus loads of festivals in late 70's early 80's) Richard Thompson is the big draw for me - Flaming Lips & Horrors for daughter. I only really know the first 4 on my list - the rest I'm looking forward to after listening to a bit of their stuff but i'm sure this will evolve over time ... & no particular order after the first 4.

1. Richard Thompson

2: British Sea Power

3: Flaming Lips

4: Drenge

Wild Beasts

Yo La Tenga

Mark Kozalek

Stealing Sheep

Eagulls

Ezra Furman

  • 4 months later...

1. British Sea Power

2. Hookworms

3. The Horrors

4. Deer Tick

5. Perfume Genius

6. Richard Thompson

7. Flaming Lips

8. John Cooper Clarke

9. Horse Thief

The first 3 are in order, the rest not really. Have so many bands that I want to see, I shall be running about all over the place.

Also looking forward to catching Drenge, Gruff Rhys, Lau, Mazes, laish, The Rails and so on and on and on.

In no order...

Mazes - I never knew them before, but I really like what I hear on the web

Israel Nash - like Neil Young, but better these days

GOASTT - great tunes and the son of a Beatle

BSP - always brilliant

Archie Bronson Outfit - for the best Deep Purple impression I've heard for a long time (OK, only in places)

Cate Le Bon - low-fi excellence

Black Lips - for the chaos

Radiophonic Workshop - solely for the Dr. Who theme tune!

The Horrors - because they owe me for not showing up last time and now they have better tunes

Richard Thompson - barely has anyone on an EOTR stage been worthy of the term "Legend"... and rated one of the best guitarists of all time!

Tell us WHY folks!

And who will you be swerving like an Ebola outbreak? For me... Connan Mockasin (ooh, nice early on Friday night to prepare for a big Saturday), Tune Yards, Arc Iris. I just don't get them.

Avoiding like the plague:

John Cooper Clarke - even took him off my "everything I can find EOTR related" playlist because he was so unbearable.

I'm not fan of Connan either.

As for my top 10. Well, that changes on a daily basis:

Adult Jazz

Flaming Lips

Malkmus

Ezra Furman

Lucius

Hookworms

Yo La Tengo

Woods

Chad Vangaalen

Jenny Lewis

Volunteering (and it'll be my first EOTR too!) so have to miss a few of the bands I would have been looking forward to but my list would go as follows:

2. Gruff Rhys

3. The Flaming Lips

4. Drenge

5. tUnE-yArDs

6. Wild Beasts

7. British Sea Power

8. The Districts

9. Unknown Mortal Orchestra

10. Arrows of Love

1. Sweet baboo

2. The Wave Pictures

3. Arc iris

4. Gruff Rhys

5. Wild Beasts

6. woods

7. Yo La Tengo

8.Gene Clark no other band

9. stealing sheep

10. Pink Mountaintops

Could do another 10 easily, loads of stuff I want to see this year. Tuneyards, The horrors, John Grant (again), Futur Primitif etc etc

No intention of going anywhere near Richard Thompson, can't stand his stuff (aside from 'I want to see the Bright Lights) and that new acoustic version album is even worse.

Very excited now. Our 5th EOTR I think, after missing last year due to babies. Bringing the x2 sprogs this year, it will be our 3 year olds 3rd EOTR, and we are ready to (gently) rock!

Excited by:

White Denim

Felice Bros.

St Vincent

The Flaming Lips

TuNeYaRds

Jenny Lewis

Looking forward to checking out:

Ezra Furhman

St Paul & the Broken Bones

David Thomas Broughton

Woods

Might argue it's a little samey this year (John Grant!) but shall still be a great weekend. Fingers crossed for some traditional EOTR late summer sunshine.

:-)
