V have announced whats happening on the friday, doesnt look like anything special at all, but its almost a step in the right direction if V eventually get bigger acts on the friday and make it a 3 day/2 and a half day festival.

It's just DJs isn't it? So instead of having the old indie disco with the same DJs mtv are putting on a few different ones likely playing the same music (as each other, not the old Friday nights we remember so fondly) so I doubt people will even notice!

Pretty much yeah, all sound like DJ's that are associated with MTV but if V see a large amount of people going there on the friday night, then they could look at getting a few different acts other than DJ's for the friday, bill them as chelmsford and weston exclusives and try make it sound like a good thing, even when in reality V are still far behind the curve.

Im fuming about this.  I bought back in March, where the hell is my free VIP upgrade!

You have your ticket so you are not a priority for V. What they dont know is I already have mine bought for a nice £134 for red camping, but I think even that will be way above the prices you will see next week. My guess is as low as £80.

Yeah i know.  Still sent them a shittie email just to see what happens.  They are clearly struggling to give tickets away let alone sell them.

They will do what they do best and completely ignore you. The best way to get to them is via social media, put something up on twitter/FB and you stand a better chance of a reply. I honestly think the PR is now run by two 16 year old girls.

Oh dear.  Free tickets given away in the local press, free VIP upgrades for those smart enough (not me) to wait until the last minute, and tonight an advert on the front page of the London Evening Standard. Looks like they've been rumbled - a line-up so sh1te and so repetitive they can't even give the damn things away. Never mind V organisers you can probably sign up The Killers to headline again next year

Lol yeah i tend to agree.  They wouldnt let me post on the Facebook group but it has been on twitter.

Total farce.

this is hilarious because the VIP was only decent when it was sold out and therefore majorly busy at bars and toilets etc. We got it in 2012 at Weston through the girlfriend's work and it was brilliant for skipping the queues and the bar but the past two years I've not seen any need for it whatsoever  as I've always walked straight up and got drinks and the toilets haven't been busy at all if you don't go to the ones right by the main stage (not that the main stage is a convenient place to go to VIP from anyway).

by the way i think this cash only bar system is going to be a disaster, with ID checks AND everyone paying cash i think there'll be queues when there were none previous years.

I haven't posted on here for years. I'm a V veteran from the early years, time has passed and nowadays I take my kids. V was always outdone and perhaps outbid by Reading / Leeds when it had pretensions of being something a bit more than just a pop & dance festival. Perhaps that was down to the goal of generating the biggest profit (in other words it preferred to hire acts with a cheaper price tag than Reading and also getting a few big draws in to sell tickets like Kylie or Robbie way back in the past). Or perhaps it was down to V never being seen as cool or as relevant as Reading/Leeds to "serious" bands. In my opinion it has always been down to the P&L, selling tickets and keeping the sponsors happy.

Around about 2009 things changed a lot - in my opinion for the worse - as it slowly but surely stopped trying to cater for anything but the mass market. To think that Radiohead, Sonic Youth, Queens of the Stone Age, Pixies or even Coldplay once played V does my head in. Looking at this year's line-up they really are scraping the barrel, with even more one-hit wonders, dinosaurs and talent show runners-up. They have even given up on the newer bands and converted the other tent back in to a Dance Tent. I don't have a problem at all with a Dance Tent as such, but they have certainly cut down on the variety of acts available. I don't even mind them having the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna or Justin Trousersnake as headliners, as long as I can find a little tent somewhere with something new or appealing to catch. I know am getting older and tastes move on, but apart from Chvrches, Kasabian, Marina, Courteeners, De La Soul and Charlatans I am really struggling to find anything to get excited about seeing this year. I've been to other festivals such as Latitude which lays on amazingly eclectic line-ups without I imagine busting the budget.

Amazing to think V sold out in less than 2 hours in 2011. Money today is tight for many, but I feel V has shot itself in the foot and the tired, samey line-up has to be part of the reason why tickets haven't sold out in recent years. If this trend continues one wonders if V's days are numbered...

...and this is the best they can come up with for the 20th Anniversary

I used to go to V every year, then stopped for a few before going back for the first time last year.

It was okay, albiet nothing like the glory days. The whole site was really quiet, so at least there were literally no queues for the bars, but it lacked any sort of buzz or atmosphere.

My highlight was probably watching Embrace in a small tent (that's been scrapped this year), rather than The Killers for the 5th time, but generally had a good enough time to think i'd probably go back for the BIG ONE! The 20th Anniversary!!

Then they released the line up.

What a bag of shite...

My wife reckons it's cos i'm too old for all this now, but when it doesn't sell out, not even the young un's are going!?

F*ck V, and whomever runs it now.

Twas once a great (not the greatest of course, but still pretty great) festival, but now it's DJ's and X Factor losers, rather than proper bands.

The last two posts could also sum up TITP.  I'm assuming it's same bookers for both festivals cause both have been in rapid decline for a few years now with same crap turning up at both festivals.

To be honest, when I saw V line up this year I cringed.  It's utterly dreadful and little wonder they can't shift tickets.

This is funny. I've had the email offering me free VIP upgrades, but out of curiosity I went through the website to see how many standard weekend with camping tickets i could buy;

http://<a href="http://tinypic.com?ref=qp4bv5" target="_blank"><img src="http://i61.tinypic.com/qp4bv5.jpg" border="0" alt="Image and video hosting by TinyPic"></a>

Remember when you used to be limited to 4 tickets! Reckon you could probably buy 400, it's just that the counter only goes up to 99!

Balls. Can't upload screen grab for some reason; you can buy up to 99 tickets...

Happen to have brought the i paper this week and each day there has been at least a half page or quarter page advert for the V festival tickets in there

That kind of advertising isn't cheap and never known that kind of advertising this late into August before. Would love to know just how many tickets are left?

Yep I think this year it will be the quietest yet.

I went last year to Weston Park (not going this year after 7 years straight) and you noticed the difference both on the campsite and in the arena. You could literally turn up any time on the Friday and find a decent place to camp - previous years if you hadn't arrived by 12 noon, then you'd struggle to get a spot. The arena had noticeably less vendors (they ditched the V Healthy area from the 2nd stage completely and replaced with a single burger van on the other side) and I don't know if it was because I was at glastonbury a couple of months before it, but there didn't appear to be anything to do (except get drunk!). I'm convinced (and don't hold me to this) that they had brought the main stage forward as there didn't appear to be the usual vast amount of space between front of stage and the vendors at the back (again this could have been because my perception had changed). Anyone else think this?

I really think this year is make or break for V. They either go back to their indie roots or pack it in entirely. There's so much more on offer at other festivals and better value for money. I used to love V but the magic seems to have died.

And those who have bought them they can't even post them online. Bought early birds in March and they've not been posted yet. Leave on a plane Friday morning so they need to be delivered Wednesday so I can pick them up from the post office of Thursday , and we are in the channel Islands so they need yo be posted today at the latests

I've phoned twice last week and explained and no-one would talk to be until 5 days before - eg tomorrow !

Ticketmaster can't be busy with V festival !

Well I see Boots are now giving away V Festival tickets on Twitter. No competition just randomly to anyone who wants them

Give it a few days and you will probably get free V tickets with every Boots prescription

They do have 20 pairs of tickets , and it's a competition, hardly random to anyone :-)

Email I had just said to retweet the original tweet and I could win tickets, no need to even answer a question or enter details on a website

Locally in Shropshire a number of companies are

Offering chances to "win" tickets - never known so many competitions of this type associated with V

The organisers have failed to deliver again. Hopefully they will take it on board and return back to the old V. Can't see it happening.

I am disappointed I'm not going again this year. Love the build up, it was like Christmas when you were a kid.

I'd love to do 2003 all over again.
