Live Nation running this thing yeah?

I was talking with Andy Copping pretty much as soon as SSW went under and he told me Live Nation will now be setting up a festival in Leicester, i'm guessing he will be promoting it too.

I hope he books up all the stuff that he says wouldn't fit in at Download, like Manics and Pixies. This could be a great new festival which isn't far from me either....

I believe the cited site is Victoria Park, which has twice hosted a Radio 1 One Big Weekend before - I don't know how many that attracted but I've found a claim of "up to 100,000" for a one day event.

Interestingly there's also a festival happening at the Leicester Tigers rugby ground next July with an urban bent (Professor Green, Soul II Soul) and is quoting 22,000 capacity. Plus I believe the less commercially inclined multi-venue Handmade festival is returning next spring bank holiday. Presumably Strawberry Fields festival in the county is continuing...

They've been trying to put on a homecoming gig for years, but they can't put on concerts at the football stadium and they refused to use the rugby stadium out of loyalty to Leicester City Football Club. The article in the local paper said that fliers were put around Victoria Park so I'm pretty sure that's where they want to hold it.

Where in Leicester is suitable to hold a gig for 50,000 people? Unless you mean over a couple of days.

Victoria Park. It could certainly handle 50k at one time.

Just had a look at a map, 2 parks possibly. Do you think they would consider the football stadium? its 33k seated, so take away 8ish for stage at one end.... thats 25k plus how many on pitch standing (alot).....(not even sure if it would be possible due to emergency exits thinking about it.)

So I've been told the footie stadium isn't built to a high enough standard to do gigs - the effect of everyone jumping up and down in unison to the music means that stadiums for gigs have to be built to a higher strength than stadiums just for footie.

So, it's not a new festival, it's a one off outdoor Kasabian gig. That's a shame!

I believe that this is only that - but I guess if it's successful and doesn't upset the locals too much it might become a regular (non-Kasabian) event.

But as things stand I think the only reason it's likely to get the go ahead in the first place is to accommodate Leicester's biggest band.
