How big really is Glastonbury?

I know this has been posted on here before but I can't find the thread. So with a few first timers about I thought I'd get the postcode checker from the bbc.

Just put a postcode in and it will overlay the Glastonbury outline over the area giving you an example of how big it it.

My friends are always surprised when I show them that, it is about the same size as my town but has 9 times as many people!

It's actually smaller than I thought it would be after all your comments... I walk much than the full length multiple times a day... gonna be harder to get around with all the people granted but getting around doesnt sound as bad as I thought it was going to be.

If you could go from edge to edge as the bird flies, it would take 35/40 minutes. However throw in hundreds of thousands of people, vehicles, hills, non direct routes, mud, moving entertainment etc this number jumps to hours. I once spent 3 and a half hours walking around the edge of Glastonbury!

Yeah I know it's not gonna be as quick but it makes me feel a bit better as I've got a bit of a dodgy leg and the distance was bothering me... the leg is getting better but it's been bad for years so it prob wont be totally better by then. I'm quite happy to take things slowly anywayz.. want to check out as much as possible. It's very unlikely I'm gonna be going from one side of the site to another in any kind of rush.

Glatonbury is not that big really. If it was a pavemented, flat, spacious mall you could wander across it in no time.

But factor in mud or soil, uneven surfaces, tractor tracks, hills, a lack of straight lines, immense crowds in places, intoxication (yours and others), dim lighting, tents, distractions, accumulated exhaustion, etc. and it soon turn into the equivalent of a sprawling metropolis.

Physically it's perfectly managable, psychologically it's bloody immense (wonderfully immersive, sometimes overwhelming).

eta: great minds think alike.

That's the best way to do it! :D
