Headliner guesses

I'd be amazed if Phoenix's new album propelled them to the status in the UK to be able to headline a festival of Bestival's size. They subbed the second stage at R&L last time they toured a new record, although Bestival tends to be more adventurous and less predictable with it's bookings it's still a considerable leap.

Looking at Primavera, I'd say 2013 will be the year The Jesus & Mary Chain headline Bestival. Could see Nick Cave or My Bloody Valentine as Glasto other stage headliner -- doesn't necessarily negate either of them from being at Bestival though.

Would be amazing shit if JAMC were at Bestival because I'd love to I really can't be arsed trapsing over there again after last year when I honestly didn't have that bad a time looking back in retrospect. I think it would be the biggest regret of my life if I didn't see them at a festival I'd probably just hold out and see them at one of their own gigs.

Yeah, but that's mainland Europe. They're bigger there (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_(band)#Studio_albums).

And they're only headlining the Thursday at Primavera anyway, in the same way that Hot Chip and Santigold headlined the Thursday at Bestival in the last couple of years.

*EDITED TO ADD: I can't actually find any festivals that they're headlining anyway, other than the Thursday at Primavera. Possibly Rock en Seine; it's not clear if the first 3 acts to be announced for that one are the 3 headliners (probably not).

Didn't anybody ever tell you size doesn't matter? Bear in mind New Order headlined last year and they struggled to sell out Birmingham Ballroom in April. The Jesus and Mary Chain could easily headline as one of those 'nostalgia' bands that appeal to a niche audience; cheaper alternative to much bigger bands too, which is inline with Rob's idea of dedicating his time to beefing up the undercard again.

How about this. Rob pulls an Isle of Wight-y and books 3 mature bands:

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

The Jesus and Mary Chain

Lou Reed

I'm already writing online Goth poetry just thinking about it :hair:

Jesus and Mary Chain aren't big enough to headline a 50,000.00 capacity festival. I think they could play, maybe 2nd or 3rd from top under Nick Cave, or Spirtualized slot in the big top.
