Ziggy and the Spiders from MARS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sz0XIiIlATE

Many, many years ago when my daughters were 4 or 5, one of them found a huge daddy longlegs in the bath and screamed. So I wen't in, cupped him in my hands and put him out onto the window sill. I explained: "Don't worry, he's my pet spider Boris." (The name grabbed on the spur of the moment from The Who track).

Ever since then they've had no fear of spiders and they are always known in our family as Borises.

Diamond WHITE :)

If you ever find yourself down in Newton Abbot Devon there's a marvellous little drinking hole called The Cider Bar, one of only a couple left in the UK, worth checking out if you enjoy your apples :)

Whisty, it's me that's off to see ACDC in July ha ha

A Whiter Shade of PALE

A song forever linked to Procul Harum but here's the lovely Annie offering another version.

My great cider drinking days were at the Coronation Tap in Clifton in Bristol. One of the great cider pubs.

Doh, It's my age!

I know exactly what you mean there whisky, I've got a good memory, just short :)

Nice watering hole there grumps. The Cider Bar is on trip advisor, gives you a flavour of the establishment. The one 1 star review makes me smile, obviously that person has never been to glastonbury lol.

I would post some photos but doing it on an iPhone defeats me........

^^ :)

Mari Boine has a a track called Ale Ale Don, have no idea what that means in Sami or whatever laguage it represents, but love her feelings put over through sound of music. So something live from Mari - would have thought it might suit grumps ear, pure folk with a nice electro touch.

”It’s completely irrelevant what you call her music. It’s music that blends seamlessly into the rhythms and sound picture of our times. She could have sung her songs a thousand years ago, or in a thousand years and still retained the same depth and resonance.”

And another vid for luck.

One for Grumpies mum in law, if memory serves me this time that is. Was looking for something Sarah Vaughan, great line up here. I got quite annoyed with myself when I finally found out George Benson wasn't just some cheesy 80s pop singer but is a highly accomplished Jazz guitarist. He's singing here tho :)

Nothing moving here but never knew this album existed.

George Benson is indeed magic there whisty, one of Mrs oneeye's all time favourites. Reckon Glastonbury should get him over on West Holts (Jazzworld), perfect headliner.

My offering on this sunny Sunday afternoon is SKIP; can't beat a bit of banjo :)

After hop, skip and jump not sure what but I've settled on SHAKE

Mainly prompted by Whisty's George Benson - same opening line about the girl/woman who lives up the hill. (Starts at about 3.00 in when they go into Shake Your Moneymaker).

Fleetwood Mac when they were a blues band and not very expensive MoR cabaret.

And years on this is a much more laid back Jeremy Spencer, who played the frenetic Elmore James style side guitar with Fleetwood Mac, now back playing again after leaving the band and joining the Children of God - now known as The Family International - with which he's still involved.

GLOVE

Another of Grumpy's Gonners. Alvin (aka Shane Fenton) died last year and had an escort of 50 Harley Davidsons for his coffin.

I love inconsequential details: The record label owner who revitalised his career was Labour Peer Lord Levy. Apparently the Stardust trade mark gloves came about when his hands went black after dying his hair.

STRING

A Eurovision winner in 1967 for Sandie Shaw. Apparently she hated it but was persuaded to go with it by Adam Faith, who discovered her.

Nice one Oneeye, reminds me of the radio while growing up (Ed Stewpot, not At Her Majesty's Leisure)

Go from to TIE to SHADE (as in 50 Shades of Grey)

Nice version of the song, from Denmark, quite a bit of an intro, with the hardcore partygoers of the 60s now sitting round on picnic chairs. My first wife used to tell me tales of going to see the Stones and Beatles touring in the 60s, great stories, but no music could be heard over the screams!

SHINE Silently.

I love Nils Lofgren's delicate guitar work and it builds beautifully. No wonder Springsteen enjoys working with him.

So there's an album by Mary Black called shine. Music or artist I have no knowledge of but to link to a track that I first heard on the Sopranos and blew me away. The guys who put the music to that TV series knew their stuff. Anyway, when 1st heard that's what I thought "what a delicate touch" love this track when the guitar starts. Thanks for reminding me.

Arghhhh, he was here 3 weeks ago. I blame you grumpy for not posting NL a bit sooner :)

Mary Black - excellent folkie, done stuff with Joan Baez.

Sorry you missed on NL Whisty.

Another band to catch is Dr Feelgood. Wilko Johnson was with them for many years as part of the Canvey Island gang.

This is their current line up, without Wilko. It's the second song that contains the link word NIGHT

They are the headliners for my fourth fest this summer Farmer Phil's near Shrewsbury.

Prowler

Soon spot the prob with this vid, but nothing else live for this track and for me, as good as Brian is.AC/DC were this band. Or maybe it was that bloke in school uniform that were AC/DC :)

A different band and a different Prowler.

I'm not a great heavy metal fan but this is a pretty good opener to take the crowd with them - and only the drummer is wearing shorts.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3TGn9i8VXc

So let's link with MAIDEN

P.S. With Australia to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest this year maybe they'll all be in shorts.
