From Party to TELEPHONE

I remember the old days when people used to have party lines to their home telephones because there were simply not enough telephone lines to meet the needs.  You picked up your phone and if the neighbouring house was on the party line you had to wait before you could make a call. Now most households have a handful of mobiles.

This was one of those novelty songs from 1977 that you just don't seem to get any more. Meri Wilson, a Grumpy Gonner.  Died in a road accident in 2002 aged 53.

LEAVE

Sorry if I'm on a bit of a Paul Simon roll but the joy for me in this performance is the magnificent Steve Gadd on drums.  Right from the first strokes he gives the whole thing a distinctive feel.

FLAKE  The connection is that this classic Small Faces album was narrated by Stanley Unwin and was a story featuring a fly.

A great album with classics like Tin Soldier as well

Several connections to one of my favourite films The Full Monty, which included this Hot Chocolate track.

They became a close group of brothers but, because of the Brothers Cider Glastonbury connection, I'll pick as the link word CIDER

Image result for brothers cider glastonbury

That crocodile uses his TEETH on Punch's sausage... Martin was good in the Acoustic Tent 2 years ago(?), looing forward to June more than ever now.  Mr G, should be ready to help for resale day if it's not the 9th, NFiR!

LEAVE

Sadly Mary is another Grumpy Gonner, died in 2009 of leukaemia aged 72.  I remember seeing their reunion tour in 1978. Great songs and harmonies.

Peter Yarrow wrote a solo album which featured a beautiful, bittersweet song of regrets about making some wrong choices in his life that is still one of my favourites when I get into a melancholy mood.
