This does look more realistic, i can see Bloc Party being bumped up to headliners next year, and can also see Pendulum, Mumfords and Noel G subbing

However i still don't think Biffy will headline but that's just my opinion, which will maybe change after their album this year, certainly if they have another single as big as Many Of Horror i could see them headlining

I also disagree with Lostprophets at 3rd, their album this year bombed and doesn't look like any big festivals want them any more, apparently at V they asked to play earlier because the day before their crowd was so small because so many went to see Example instead :/ so don't see how they can move back to 3rd next year

Yeah I don't reckon Lostprophets would play 3rd thinking about it, but I couldn't see them lower than 4th. Although, I think BMTH will (unfortunately) be given as high a placing as 3rd/4th on the main next year.

Some of these recent predictions are terrible although that could be down to me being an old git! They really do seem to be crying out for someone of the caliber of Metallica, Blur or Green Day but as I say it's probably an age thing.

I agree on the quality of the lineups haha, and I do think someone huge like Blur/Metallica/The Stone Roses has to play :)

I can't see Bloc Party and Biffy getting the push together. Both are decent but nothing more for me. I guess there is a serious lack of acts that could make that step up though. I would love to see The Enemy make it big with this new album as they are constantly superb but I just can't see it.

I currently think Biffy, The Killers and Blur/The Stone Roses will headline. With my previous lineup I was just doing a reshuffle of Andre's :)

I agree about the acts making the step up, but I believe there's a quite a few who'll be there soon (Mumfords, Black Keys, Elbow etc.). I can see The Vaccines being given a sub spot next year to ready them for headlining in the future. Whether they deserve it another matter. And I'd love White Lies to become headliners soon. :)

I absolutely love The Black Keys so would love them to make the step up. Hopefully a new band will come from nowhere like The Arctic Monkeys or The Strokes. Anything to stop Mumford headlining really although given their popularity I think it's inevitable.

Haha, I hate Mumfords so I hope they don't! Hopefully V nick them as a sub for next year so we don't have them. Although, I hoped the same thing about Florence this year. :(

When Neil confirmed Florence as sub I was delighted just because it meant they weren't headlining! I can see Mumford at V as they seem to fit there, are very much of the moment, and I think V will offer more £££. The only thing that may get them to R&L is if they are offered headliner rather than sub elsewhere. I am just really hoping for a curveball like The Cure this year or Pulp last year, something for older buggers like me as I don't think I will get to any other festivals bar R&L next year.

Oh God. If Mumfords were to headline I'd lose all hope :P The curveball I'd most like to see is Pearl Jam, but I can't see us getting one. :(

I am going to keep the faith! I really think they need something to stand out and taking any personal preferences out of it I don't see a line up with both Biffy and Bloc Party headlining selling the best part of 200,000 tickets at over £220 a pop. If we are requesting curveballs Soundgarden or Smashing Pumpkins please!!! Oh and Slash would go down very nicely indeed.

Depressingly it looks like Mumford now have to popularity to become a headline act after their next release, but I think they suit V fest much more. Where has good music gone to? I mainly go to the fest to see the older bands now, I always moan about the new bands, it's a sad situation seeing as I'm 20 years of age. I came of age just as the big bands of the day went shit or broke up, (Strokes, Libertines, Arctics etc.), then cheesy, manufactured pop came back in vogue as I hit my formative years, shit timing really. My only consolation is that I got the reunions of Pulp, Suede, The Stone Roses and Pixies, but it's a bugger when all your favourite music is borrowed from other generations. And I'm sorry for derailing the thread with my bellyaching.

It's not an age thing, it's called having good music taste :P I'm 18 and hate most of these predictions.

There's plenty of good music. It's just not in the charts or radio. I've been pretty lazy the last 18 months or so, but if you make a bit of an effort you can find plenty of exciting new bands.

Part of a band being exciting is them being big, if they aren't popular and so few of your friends have heard of them then it's just not the same.

That's not entirely true though, because for quite a few bands, in order to become big, they have to start making less interesting music that appeal to the masses, thus losing their excitement factor for me. The obvious example here is KOL.

Bugger that. I find it far more exciting to see small-mid size acts that I love and friends love. It helps that I have friends that listen to my music recommendations, but I doubt I'll ever be as excited for arena/stadium shows for big acts as I am seeing a small band at an intimate show.

Muse would be the obvious example to me, but KoL is a good one. As is Biffy.

Of course, it doesn't always come off badly. The Flaming Lips for instance. Soft Bulletin is definitely their poppiest, most accessible album, but damn it that is a thing of beauty.

If Bloc Party, Biffy Clyro and WTT headlined that would be a very underwhelming trio. It needs a massive headliner along the lines of Blur, Metallica, Green Day to go there. Biffy will one day headline R&L but I'm not convinced on Bloc Party, I can't see them making the step up at R&L, they could at the IOW Fest but, like QOTSA I can't see them anything other than subs at R&L.

While KOL is a great example of a band making less interesting music in order to become mainstream it would be nice if a band could release a debut album that captured everyone's imagination and signalled a shift in the popular music tastes. I can't remember one since the Arctics over 6 years ago now. Unfortunately while there are still good bands out there they are just not popular with the youth of today who buy records and essentially that is what dictates what gets radio play. I see The Enemy got to number 9 in the album charts today and I really think their latest effort is the best I have heard in years.
