elfweirdigan
On the same gorgeous Welsh borders site as last year, building on the last one, back on their feet now, this is looking like being a really chilled, family-friendly, off-beat festival. Renewably powered, peaceful and inspiring. A festival like they used to be. http://www.greengathering2012.co.uk/
elfweirdigan
Confirmed that at the Green Gathering this year Weirdigans will be running our 'Ideal Dome Exhibition' (home-hewn geodesic dome and state-of-the-art LED lighting) plus SouLEDisco (12-volt, solar-powered, LED-lit semi-secret dancehall) as well as the cafe. Plus, there's going to be an 'Occupy Zone' mixing radical politics with direct action stunts, participatory democracy, activist art, performance poetry and discussions about how to move into a sustainable, co-operative future that benefits people and planet not corporate coffers. All the usual Green stuff, music, workshops, kids' activities, sauna, permaculture, renewable energy, healing area, traditional crafts and classic festival bands as well. Ticket prices rise each month so get 'em now for a better deal.

grumpyhack
I'd be tempted but for the fact that I'm already going to the Croissant Neuf Summer Party, not far up the road in Usk the following weekend. Aother fest with a strongly green ethos.
elfweirdigan
Do both! Straight from one to the other with a trip to the Forest of Dean or Wye Valley or Llanthony Priory inbetween... that's what we did last year
elfweirdigan
Latest on the Green Gathering - a four day eco festie near Chepstow on the Welsh Borders (just at the end of the M4) on 2-5 August: www.greengathering2012.co.uk/ There's an offer on until the end of the month - 4 adult tickets for the price of 3. Little kids go free, 10-16yr olds £50. Loads of kids/teens activities (but not so many kids that you fall over them every time you turn around). Weather forecast for early August - better than it has been... Edited July 15, 2012 by elfweirdigan

elfweirdigan
Green Gathering have been tweeting from @GG_2012. This is another non-commercial festie with no big name bands but a lot going for it. Take your own drinks in, eat reasonably priced food, buy local cider from a bar run by a non-profit collective. Get involved in loads of fascinating stuff that you just wouldn't get anywhere else, like author and eco-activist Danny Chivers talking about his experiences in the surreal world of undercover cops... Plus veterans of Occupy at St Paul's Cathedral describing what they're up to now and how that links in with the Olympics and aristocrat Hector Christie's arrest for allegedly trampling GM wheat... alongside astrologers reading the stars and anarchists running poetry workshops. Calling all rebels and lovers of Alice... in Wonderland or Through the Looking Glass.
