Fair enough maybe i did take it abit too far but I do think that with Glastonbury not on there was a larger scope to approach huge bands such as the foo's. After reading last year I was hoping for Foo's, Green day and Red hot Chilli's (Not knowing how bad they were live from reviews from the last time they played Reading) just wanted to see them.

I did recognise some of the cure songs though. Mainly from watching the inbetweeners end theme songs. Anyway if they did play I think il be at the NME whoever it is. Im sure some people would like the cure to headline but some people won't but thats how it would be for whoever gets chosen.

Sorry if i caused harm with my comments. I think some people just take things too far with the comments I have received here.

Welcome to the internet :P

No harm done with comments but you will be etched into thesecretingredientiscrimes sig to remind you to think before you type... and i'm not even a huge Cure fan

all them cure followers. I guarantee a lot more people would be interested in tickets if Linkin Park were playing rather than The Cure. Before I googled them i didn't know they even existed. Would be a poor headliner. At least people knew of My chemical romance despite how bad people thought it would have been.

It just doesn't fit the typical Reading audience.
the typical Reading audience used to know their music history.

Is the typical Reading audience now made up of musical morons?

Agreed Neil, disappointing the reaction to the Cure being a potential headliner.

It’s so sad that this is the level that it’s got to though.

I just think with the line up last year, people did expect a huge lineup this year. And if the cure are announced as a headliner, there will always be people that will be disappointed but like people have said they will sell day tickets and will have there following. We will have to see :)

Is limp bizkit playing any festivals this year btw?

I don't think Linkin Park would be very inspired, I can't see much difference between them and The Killers when it comes to size, demand or creativity of booking.

Some of us have a pretty good knowledge of music history, so I wouldn't apply a sweeping brush to us on the basis that one person hasn't heard of The Cure. The post you refer to obviously makes the mistake of considering his own knowledge as representative of the whole, please don't make the same mistake.

The one applying the sweeping brush is you and not me.

I asked a question; I didn't make a statement.

I don't think the response has been bad really. There are just a select few who don't know much about anything who can't understand why they'd headline.

The majority of people seem fine with it. Even if some don't like they accept why they headline.

Ok i did make a mistake. I knew of the music of the cure but not who they were. When googling them I was then aware of who sang the songs. My mistake. :banghead:

I'd hardly say Linkin Park have toured relentlessly.  The only UK festivals they've played in recent memory are Download and Sonisphere, and the last time they headlined Leeds/Reading was 2003.

And for the Thousand Suns tour they only played a few arena gigs over here and that was back in 2010.

The only thing is they are not really a band of the moment, but that said they still have a massive fan base and unquestionably remnain one of the biggest bands in the world.

As well respected as The Cure are, going by their recent activity (or lack of), and judging recent R&L audiences, they would have one of the smallest main stage headline crowds in the festivals history I'd guess - unless of course they manage to pull in huge numbers of day ticket go'ers.

Linkin Park in the UK for the last 5 years...

2011 Headlined Download
2010 Arena tour
2009 Headlined Soni
2008 Arean tour & Projekt Revolution
2007 Headline Download

you've forgotten the show(s?) they did with Jay-Z the same year he headlined Glasto.

Jay-Z had nice () things to say about that show. I think the word was "underwelmed".
