I'd be hugely surprised if they've ever grossed even a million for a show in Europe (I've no idea if things might work differently in the states).

I heard that them and GnR got about 1.5m each for Download 2006 and Tool were the "cheap option" to balance it out!

Didnt AC/DC apparently get a reported 5 million for headlining DL 10?

Figure I heard was £4m. Albeit I'm not sure if that sort of included all the extra costs in them having their own stage etc or was only including what was paid directly to the band.

Also I think that year I heard it was around £2m for Aerosmith and £1m for RATM.

From Thrash Hits

Black Sabbath
We were saddened to hear yesterday via Facebook that Bill declined publicly to participate in our current Black Sabbath plans...we have no choice but to continue recording without him although our door is always open... We are still in the UK with Tony. Writing and recording the new album and on a roll... See you at Download!!! - Tony, Ozzy and Geezer

I'm not a massive sabbath fan but this is a sad day, old men squabbling over how many millions they're set to make. No doubt ozzy's camp will be behind this, not like they need the fucking money.

its not a silly demand for money, I very much doubt he wants more than 25% of the cut, and I very much expect Sharon aint letting that happen.
I give kudos to Bill for keeping the moral high ground and not slagging off the guilty parties publicly.

I'd imagine that if Bill does not end up doing it then the other 3 would end up with a bigger share anyway. It is massively unfair if Bill is getting less of a share, that post didnt just sound like it would be about money though. There seems something ureasanoble in the contract, maybe no influence over his parts in the creative aspects of the new album, ridiculous touring schedule, no time off for events important to him etc, just something more than money does not add up.

Looks like download will be the only European tour date

TOUR UPDATE: BAND’S SOLE EUROPEAN PERFORMANCE THIS SUMMER SET FOR U.K.’S DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL. OZZY & FRIENDS TO PERFORM MAJORITY OF OTHER SCHEDULED SHOWS

BLACK SABBATH --who late last year confirmed the recording of their first new album in more than 33 years and a worldwide headlining tour--have had to put some plans on hold due to Tony Iommi's battle with lymphoma. At this time, BLACK SABBATH will perform only one show of this summer’s previously scheduled European tour. It will take place Sunday, June 10 at the U.K.’s Download Festival.

So as not to let the promoters and fans down, Ozzy Osbourne will now perform the majority of the previously scheduled BLACK SABBATH dates (both festival performances and the headlining shows) billed as OZZY & FRIENDS. These “first ever” OZZY & FRIENDS shows will feature appearances by “special guest” musicians includingOfficial Geezer Butler (who will join Ozzy for a special BLACK SABBATH set as a show of respect and support to their friend, Tony Iommi) and longtime former OZZY band member Zakk Wylde. In addition, OZZY will be accompanied by longtime collaborator and friend Slash at select shows, with other “special guests” set to join the tour at various stops along the way (full list of dates, appearances below).

Tony Iommi continues to make excellent progress and is looking forward to getting back out on the road. Meanwhile, BLACK SABBATH continue to write and record music in the U.K. for their upcoming album. More information about these dates and BLACK SABBATH’s recording and touring plans is forthcoming.

just to ask, if you have a day tickets, can you get the wristband or whatever for them without having to trek all the way to the campsite check gates? didn't no wether they put them on at the separate entrance for day holders or what?

That explains why they put day tickets on sale so soon. Now worldwide Black Sabbath fans will want to go to Download.

Not gunna start tearing your head off like many have, but in terms of general rock fans, everyone I personally know love it, the online community I speak with love it, in fact I believe you are the only person who dislikes it so much.

Thats your opinion, I think its gunna sell a fuck load, well it already has

Well that's fair enough, I'd say more in terms of general metal fans but we won't discuss that as it's not important. Me stating that last years Download is about the best it'd get for me, and that might even include 2006's lineup too lol, pretty much tells you something, that I take an interest to an extent as bands like Sabbath and certain other heavy bands bother me but it's not the direct fest for me.

I don't really feel spending £90 for the day is justified but I know spending £200 ish will have me wondering why.

Hey if we all liked the same thing then no other festivals or events would sell except for one, either way I think i'll be okay with day tickets until 2mora t least when we plan to buy them.
